hey there , well just built a machine there last week and got a call today saying the machine won't boot up! damn me thinks ,shouldnt be too serious I hoped but thats not the case!

Its an amd64 3200 system with a cheap Abit board (UL8, ULI M1689, Socket-939, ATX) ,problem is that the there is no life in the machine at all, no fans ,no beeping, only thing alive is the small green LED indicator light on the board near the ram slots,(tested the power supply in another machine and its working fine)

All that happens when u try to switch on is the cpu fan will make a small half rotation and stop dead and then nothing, very strange??!
I wonder is the cpu dead or is the board dead ,usually should'nt the board give off a beep code if the cpu has failed??
    any help well appreciated
    Cheers Kavs.

may be a mainboard issue, doubt it is cpu, maybe something is shorting out the mobo.
remove any excess cards and just try with bare essentials, ie. cpu and gpu and memory. try it also outside of the case on a table with a static bag underneath it

ya good advice ,just finished trying the anti-static bag test but no change,
Think I better rma the cpu and the board just to be safe?

Did you try reseating the cpu just in case?Try it without the memory also.It should beep without it.

    regards kieran

ya tried reseating the cpu but nothing still, also removed ram plus every other component and did not get any beep code, so all seems to point to the motherbard??

I had an identical problem before Christmas - it was the motherboard. CPU/Graphics card/Memory were all fine. Replaced the motherboard, and it booted up without problem.

Okay just got the RMA number off the company ,so am going to return the board ASAP, very disappointing from an Abit board expected alot more.
