My boss uses a hp scanjet 4400c

He has asked me can I try "fix" it as its only giving black image (total surface area)

I've updated the drivers, the hp software, and also a fix for "black images"

    Downloaded HP Diagnostics etc etc

Still no luck, tried different software (photoimpression) and "recalibrating" cartridge as per the troubleshooting but no luck

Is the scanner @ the end of its days ?? I know its old etc but was never into dumping stuff if it could still function

Personally I'm guessing he moved it alot and it has no lock

You've probably already checked.... but is the bulb working ok?
Sorry for sounding obvious... but you never know :)

lol I thought of that after doing al the updates (would not occur to him)

but yes a nice bright light scans the glass.

same preview image though if a page on glass or cover fully open to daylight.

    Me thinks its buggered

Now that you're sure it's wrecked... you could spend the rest of the day taking it to bits, looking at each part under a magnifying glass, stroking your chin and going "hmmmm... yeeesssss" :D
Your boss won't bother you with this kind of thing again!
