    I'm holiday in Poland. It's -32.

Think about that. In ireland we live between the -2 + 32 category.

    - 32

When i went out this morning, the hairs in my nose, froze. If you dont wear the right clothes you can get frostbite. Just walking you dog!

I'm outside Krakow. In a small town called Nowy Sacz. (Pronounced Nova Sonch - Go figure).

Not much here except snow ice and the cold. Poland is a pretty cool place to visit.

I think next time I will be better equipped though.

And yes, there are people walking their dogs.

looks liks this ct has free WIFI :D

    interesting.....

do you think its nice to visit poland these days ...... i think summer is the time to go one of me mates told me ....

and yes krakov is very nice city . lublin and poznan <not sure of spelling > :)

how much you are paying for accomodation... if you dont mind me asking ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭Mmmm_Lemony

Accomodation is free. Staying with friends.

Last night (tonight) we stay in Hostel in centre of Krakow though. about 12 euros each for a double. You could probbly rent an apartment for about 50 euro a week. Alcohol is very cheap.

Came for the Skiing by the way, will be back in june for a wedding.

Other people are walking their dogs not me! Maybe in june!

    go to the salt mines.

Read a bit in the paper the other day were the farmers have been giving their cows vodka to keep them warm during the big freeze. Apparently one lightweight Moo Moo got hammered and ran head first into the generator which heated the house thus leaving the farmer in the ****. Silly Moo Moos.

Did you ever c guys throwing boiling water into the air and it freezing before it hits the gound, to show how cold it is? This isn`t really as impressive as it seems, since boiling water freezes faster that room temp water, or so some guy told me. Mmmm Lemony maybe you can test this theory!

If it like Boston (which coldest was -50F not including wind chill when I was there).

    1. Wear polar gear.
    2. Cover everywhere. I mean everywhere. Get googles.
    3. Do not wear light shoes.

When I lived in Boston I had a load of Irish friends over and they took the piss out of me as I put on what amounted to a quilt suit with hat, googles and face scarf.

They weren't laughing 2 minutes later when they went outside. They also thought I was joking when I said you could throw a cup of water into the air and it would turn to ice.

One of them I loaned my headgear to (they lived near me) and I walked home early morning. I was in so much pain it wasn't funny. As mentioned the inside of my nose froze, I had icicles on my eyes. I had to stay in bed for a day. If I hadn't been able to move from shop to shop going home I would of died.

If your going there over the next couple of days

    you NEED

    Waterproof gloves
    boots and jacket

thermal undies may not be the right choice for machos but they are a life saver! plenty of lairs, about 4 or five. thermal gear is the best. I got most of my stuff in TK max at a song... Going to get hammered now for the price of a hamburger. Nas Drovia!

Just got baack to the hostel. Still minus a huge amount. Met a bunch of lads from fermanagh/ About 5/6.One ofr them ewas wearing a jumper and t-shirt. It's minus 32. His mate was wearing a parka (he was worse for wear). A friend of mine from poland gave him advice to get his mate out of the cold. I give him 20 minutes. You might read about emin the neeews!

is it correct that this cold spell will be moving west and hit us this weekend (obviously it wont be -35 but will still be cold compared to our standards)

Boiling water evaporates in cold. Less water, faster freeze.

That would be windchill. My mistake. If there is no wind its a bit easier.

Thing is - it doesn't feel like -32 would here.

Because it's always so damp in Ireland, the temperature really penetrates. If it was 40C in Ireland, you'd be unable to move. If it was -10C, the country would grind to a halt, and its because of the damp.

I've been out in -10C in New York, and it feels much like 1 or 2C here, it doesn't cut through you as badly at all..

    i would agree with that.

i've been in Moscow when it was -10, it was pretty bad but not as bad as i expected.

As long as you have the right equipment you wont feel it too much. -32 is very very cold, but with proper winter clothing you won't feel cold if your moving around in it. it is supposed to ease up over the next few days as well.

Anyway, if you don't wan't your holiday ruined don't eat the Polish Kebabs. They are not like kebabs here...

Had one on the last night. I'm still in bed.
