RopeDrink's Amazing (Or Not) Infantry Class War, 2006(tm). Suggestions / Predictions.

    I'll leave this thread as a 'What class you'd predict would win' thread, yet I *am* half tempted to organise one for the craic, so if you're interested then sign up.

    This would be the general layout, so make your predictions based on how each class would far in a tourney like this one.

    *RULES*
    • Infantry Only, so no vehicles allowed (Except Mounted TOW's / Mounted Machineguns etc) as well as no commanders.

    • Infantry must ALL use Stock / Unlocked weapons (depending on vote // mass preference) ie. All Anti-Tank's must use the SubMachine guns // DA0's. No mixed weaponry, such as some using stock weapons while others use unlocks.

    • Infantry must NOT pick up a different kit ie. If you are playing for one class then you are NOT permitted to pick up the kit of an opposing class. Picking up a kit identical to yours, however, is allowed.
    • No Flag Capping. The point of this tourney would be to determine which class would succeed in Infantry combat over other classes, as opposed to the regular rules which allow the game to be won by capturing more // all flags.

    • Victory is achieved by reducing a class-team's tickets to zero, or having more tickets than the other team in the event that time runs out. Timelimit would be 15 minutes with the initial ticket count starting at 150.
    • Unlike regular Infantry Only rules, explosives (such as C4, Claymores and Mines) are allowed. The point of this tourney would be to judge which class can 'do a number' on the rest, so there is no reason why these things should be dissalowed.

    • Class based tricks, such as the Support ability of 'Infinite Grenade Spam' or Engineers ability to lay // blow up mines are also allowed, so beware.

    • Absolutely NO spawn camping.

    • SF unlocks / weapons / equipment (Including flashbangs) are not allowed. It is strictly BF2.

    Anyone interested? I'd be a bit of a laugh I guess.
    Anyway, if it were to happen, I'd need a server as well as a team of experienced, multitasking BF2'ers. For all this to give a remotely accurate result, you'd really need highly skilled, class based players to do this, as opposed to just getting a regular team together to play as the different classes, but I don't think any pro's are going to sign up so all you bastards would have to do :D

    On that note, it'd either need to be a set team of the same players, or have people apply to play for a class based team. For example, me being a fan of Anti-Tank / Support / Medic would mean I'd apply for one of those teams (or all, depending on player limitation, such as wether it were allowed for one player to play for more than one team, but the problem would arise where people who play for more than one team cannot then participate in a match that would include BOTH teams, so I think it may be best to restrict players so that they can only play for one class each).

    Given the above rule, it'd have to be 8 v 8 or lower, as it'll be hard to find so many players to fill out each team. Maybe even 5 v 5 or something.

    Anyway, would do ye think? Feel free to throw some suggestions, or even predictions. If people feel strongly about making something like this happen then throw in an application :D

    If I were to play for a class, I'd play for the Support, Medic or Anti-Tank but, primarily, I'd go with the Support. I love a good underdog :D

    As a prediction, however, I think Medic's would come out on top. They have good weapons, grenades, healing and revival and would be a bugger to put down given the fact they can put a dampner of ticket loss with their abilities. I'd put Assault in second place with their Grenade Launchers with SpecOps or Support in third. I think the last places would definately go to Anti-Tank, Snipers or Engineers.

    EDIT: I think it'd be best if the weapon rule be changed so that only stock weapons can be used. No unlocks.

    Potential Players:

    Anti-Tank -- Scruff, ...
    Assault -- Ambro25, InstantKarma, ...
    Engineer -- ...
    Medic -- JonnyBadd, Chalky, ...
    SpecOps -- R0ot, Spiritus, Jaggeh, Zillah, ...
    Sniper -- IAmXavier, FuzzyLogic, Vegeta, Archytas, ...
    Support -- RopeDrink, Jeawan, ...

    Im sure we could get the inf-only mod loaded up on one of our servers for this.
    Or simply disable vehicles.

    It would depend on the map. Obviousy Engineers are goosed in long range combat where snipers would excel. Close quarters snipers are probably in truoble against assult and suipport guys.

    Thats the whole point, like.
    The snipers will try to use the terrain to their advantage to keep the assault guys at bay, while the assault people will try and get as close to the snipers as possible.

    Classes I'd play as are Assault, Spec Ops and A/T (listed in order of preference).

    I might be willing to lend you my skills for this (purely in the interest of science of course). I'm an all rounder but I suppose you can put me down for spec-ops, or if not then sniper, medic or assault.

    Really i think maps like Mashtuur City and Dalian Plant and maybe Sharqui Peninsula would be the best suited to this. :D

    EDIT: Either that our some kind of custom infantry maps

    i personal think the engineers are screwed, if there not allowed to use the unlock and since no one is in a vechicle the mines are useless, i like playing as an engineer when there is vechicles around to use and blow up but in an infantry only type battle i think its in trouble (the shot gun is useless unless you`re one on one and upclose and i mean up close 4 feet or so). at least the AT guys can use the AT weapon against infantry at distance or upclose with practice.

    Mines pre next patch can be used very smartly if you think it through. Lay a couple of mines around a flag, wait for some inf to try and take the flag, launch a nade in and hey presto, carpet bombing.

    As I posted earlier in the thread (and depending on number of 'takers'), you might want to look at 16 player maps, in which case pretty much any will do (thinking here about the 16-player Oman map, for instance, which is quite good for all classes: plenty opportunities for snipes, assault, support, etc. with a heady mix of big fields of fire and close-quarter urban settings).

    Alternatively, have you considered using just the one map: I'd call it an experience control factor (i.e. if all classes throughout the tourney duke it out on the same map, that's one less variable for being certain that one class out-fights another, e.g. noone can turn around and say they're better on Karkand than on, say, Maashtuur - get my drift?)

    Up close the engineer is the best guy there, the shotguns are vicious. as for the mine thing, like RD said that can be done now, see it usd to very good effect in the alleys of karkland.

    On a side note, started using spec ops again after about 3 months of tubing with assault, anyway can't get over how good the spec ops guns accuracy\recoil is compared to the assault, f'in savage.

    Maps karkland definately, mashtuur and kubra dam.

    kubra dam map sucks. its an armoured and aircraft map, not infantry at all.

    When is the new patch coming out? There are important game changes that would render alot of the results in this league incorrect, or I spose you could do it now and do it again with the new patch..

    Kids, kubra dam in 16 player is an excellent infantry map.
    Try actually playing 16 player maps online on the public servers.
    Its rather good.
    Skill, tactics and quick thinking are rewarded as opposed to who can spam E the fastest to get into the chopper or tank to rack up mindless kills.

    I've never tried 16 player Kubra actually... I think Mashtuur and Karkeh (and apparently Kubra) would be best.

    And thats not fair! Its easy to blast away with a chopper, but its very very hard to be very good. Which I am. And it upsets me that you'd dismiss it as "mindless kills".
