V-Pocket (or the DSPDA!)

Remember that trademark that Nintendo registered way back when, V-Pocket? And the rumour was that it was going to be personal organiser software for your DS?
    So, would you be interested?
Personally, I would. One of the things that attracted me to the DS (when the launch line up was only OK), was the potential for it to be a PDA-style device at some point in the future.
But I wonder how it would work. Is there a way to install software onto the actual console, or would you need to have a cart in when you wanted to use its PDA functions?
Anyway, what would you like to see on it? I'd say diary function, memos etc. and all that basic stuff. I'd love to see a browser, although a friend of mine reckons the resolution wouldn't be good enough for it, I don't know about that though.
If they did bring out PDA capabilities they'd need to come out with some kind of PC-DS link cable too (I don't think that's possible at present, perhaps they could devise a way to have a USB cable with a GBA cart on the end of it or something), if they could do that I'd say they'd do amazingly well with young professionals (A cheap PDA device and a great games console).

So would you use it, at what price would you buy it and what features would be a must (or nice bonus)?

    Errr not a chance.

Looks far too unprofessional for a PDA. Lack of a keyboard/dial pad would also harm it.

But if you must, I think some sort of VOIP functionality or an IRC client would be nice.

You're already able to play Mario Kart DS over the internet using a wireless adapter, so who knows what'll happen?

i've been dreaming for a browser...

but even how about some sort of media player, that streams music and video from your pc over the internet straight to your wireless ds. now that would be fantastic!

There was some talk of a VOIP function a while back, including screenies where the person you spoke to turned up on the top screen as Mario or something. Sure it has all it needs, headphone jack, mic jack, wifi connectivity... sorted!

I think the play yan thing is coming out here in limited numbers, I'd like to see something more detailed that would suit a PDA style device too...

So now we have a Browser on the way, as well as a movie/mp3 player too...

Also the new DS Lite makes the whole machine much more appealing.
Reading Edge in a shop the other day (I'm a tightwad) and they mentioned that nothing has been confirmed about the software on the new DS and it could be the new wifi upgrade that people expected with the launch of Mario Kart... allowing wifi downloadable demos and possibly some more PDA software like an organiser etc.
The only issue I have with the browser and HDD is that they will be a bit messy in one way, also it looks as though GBA carts stick out of the new lite, so the HDD will stick out even more than it already does!

i've been reading alot and thinking about this v-pocket thing recently coming up to e3 week...

anyone think some light will be shed on it?

perhaps, v-pocket will come in the form of a cartridge that act as a partner with the Wii, DS and Virtual console... with the possibilities of "downloading" nes, snes games etc onto your DS for handheld play...

what ya think? could they stretch it to some N64 games? any other ideas what it could be? im getting excited thinking about the connectivity between the Wii and DS! let alone e3!

That would be class but not impossible if you think about it.

It would make sense, Nintendo have called their download service "Virtual Console", and a handheld version could easily be V-Pocket.
Reggie has hinted at the possibility of this, and I hope to God it happens; specs wise the only Ninty games the DS is incapable of playing will be GC (and Wii once they come out!), which leaves pretty much everything else on the table for a handheld version; It all depends on what nintendo want to do though, and making rewritable carts could be a piracy issue for them (but I doubt it); they could use the HDD coming out, or something similar instead?!

Tuesday should reveal all (or most)... well, we hope!
