HDD (or something) slows down after a while

    Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem. Whenever I boot up, I can do everything just fine. I can play my mp3s, avis, browse the internet and watched streamed media. My problem is, however, after say the computer has been on an hour, there seems to be a real lag from my HDD. If I play mp3s, they'll lag big time and you'll get that annoying skipping noise that you get when the media isn't coming to you on time. It's the same on both of my harddrives.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I have my power options to never shut off my HDDs so that's not the problem. My drives aren't slow, I defragment them all the time and there's no problem until the computer has been on a while. I notice these effects when I come back from somewhere and the screensaver has been on a while.

    Cheers :)

    Computer specs are:
    Athlon XP1900+
    1024 2100DDR RAM
    Abit Motherboard
    300W PSU
    Samsung 80GB & 360GB ATA 7200RPM drives
    Windows XP SP2

Lets knock off the two most common problems off the list...

What are your internal case/harddrive temps like?

What brand PSU are you using?

Run diagnostics on both hard drives and memory
    try www.memtest.org and http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/utilities/shdiag.htm

I had a similar issue with my OLD dell machine!

Everytime id come back after the screensaver was on the whole thing would slow down to a crawl and the fans would be blasting away!

Try a Bios update the latest version fixed the problem for me (That was a while back though).

    This is my PSU

Oooh, and I'm not sure about a BIOS update. I went to the latest revision and it messed up one of my HDDs. That could have been due to me not clearing my CMOS after I flashed it, but I'd still be very cautious before I try it again. :(
