Is there any kind of app you can get for XP that will make drives (CD, USB, ZIP etc.) show up on the desktop when they're connected or have media in them like in OSX? Would be a nice little feature to have; I'm trying to make my desktop as clean looking as possible and as useful as possible too.

    Thanks

Shortcuts..Drag & Drop each Drive onto the Desktop to make a shortcut..even your Removable Drives (USB) ...if you double click on one when it isnt there, all that'll pop up is a blank Explorer Window..

Hard Drives are always connected so they would be present the whole time. I dont know off-hand if there is an app which will automatically place/remove shortcuts when removeable media is present, i'll have a looksie though!

Hard Drives are always connected, not full. :p

XP has Autoplay... that gives you Open options and stuff when you plug in media.

Technically they're always full, be it with data that is no longer used, sectors marked as "empty" but really arnt, or a DoD-wiped drive with zero's...its always full...

now that i have defended my honor, i shall edit my post and concede defeat...damn you BopNiblets..damn you :p

Well I'm not talking about HDD's, but removable disks and USB mass storage devices, like zip discs, ipods in disc mode and CD's/DVD's.

I know I could make shortcuts but that would defeat the idea of having a clean desktop

What really hacks me off is that you have to right click on a removable drive to see the free space :(

Instead you get AutoInfect when you pop in removable media.

Just thinking, maybe this would suit better on Windows...
