Hi All & Happy New Year been a while since ive been on.
Can any out there tell me if there is such a Thing as an atrac Player & Burning Softwear for Mac ? reasion I would like to know this is because I have a Sony Car Audio kit which Plays Atrac & Mp3 Cd.
it seams Atrac holds more songs & the Format is better then Mp3

    Cheers

The format is not "better" than mp3; that's just Sony marketing bull. Worse sound quality, and Sony's software is a horrible POS! Plus, I don't think they even acknowledge Mac's existence.
    Use mp3 instead:D

Sony doesn't seem to think the MAC community needs SonicStage or better...
There are one or two app's out there.. it'd help if you specified the model of the kit + your machine / OS version.

"Better" is relative. It holds more because it compresses the life out of a song. The quality is affected (And may have an increased gap between tracks which is annoying).

Better to stick with a more open format like MP3,tbh. Espectially, as you may run into future troubles with DRM-laden ATRACs further down the road :/

Mac OS X Tiger the latested version so what program could run atrac & burn Em ?

on a Mac, none. as mentioned above..ie; THERE IS NO PROGRAM TO BURN ATRAC FROM A MAC. Burn an MP3 CD, using iTunes.

Who the hell would want to use ATRAC, in fairness? The quality is lower than a comparable MP3 file and you can only play it back on a Sony device.

How incredibly courteous of you. RTFM? Well i did rtfm, and the conclusion i came up with after rtfm is that people who use acronyms like these are rfoi's.

Which in non-acronym form is 'right fcuking obnoxious idiots'.

Did using 'RTFM' make you feel cool? Just even for a little bit?

"RTFM" lol! It's a Mac, it doesn't come with a manual! (at least not for iTunes)

ah yeah it did. i work in an electronics shop so ive a short fuse explainin stuff sometimes when all it takes is for someone to use their head and read the manual for 2 mins and i always tell them they have a RTFM problem and hope they dont ask!. so i apologize

i understand. I work as a recording engineer, and i know how it gets.
Embarassingly, i was convinced (for some unknown reason) convinced that itunes worked exclusively with aac, and wouldn't go near mp3.

    and yes, ernesto is great!!

Love the sweeping and inaccurate comments about ATRAC vs MP3. Also noted no one mentioned how they rip their MP3's which makes all the difference. ATRAC has always been a better encoder so you could have smaller ATRAC files with the same SQ as a MP3. Thats pretty much agreed in Audio circles. However, Lame on certain settings is probably now on a par with ATRAC even ATRAC3 but with ATRAC3plus and ATRAC Lossless Sony is still developing it and making it better.

ATRAC is gapless if encoded properly and played on the right hardware.

To create ATRAC files you need to run the SonicStage or the new Connect software and neither run's on Mac's. Sony doesn't bother because it about 2% of their market. If your CD player plays MP3's then stick with that. The difference isn't doing to be noticeable unless you are into HiFi, play it on the right speakers, rip a decently mastered CD, and drive in a very quiet car. If you want more on a CD then I suggest you experiment with the Lames settings and you might find you are ok with a lower MP3 bitrate if you change some of the settings like use VBR not CBR or use 192kps high quality instead of 256kps without lame etc. Stuff like that.

Love the sweeping and inaccurate comments about ATRAC vs MP3.

same difference as AAC Vs MP3 or OGM Vs MP3

simply pointing out that Atrac files are incompatible with Mac.

i generally rip cds at 192 kb/sec on mp3 or 160 on AAC

anythin less sounds like its playin from a small hifi.
