Just got this in an e-mail
EMERGENCY!!! If pavlo_88@hotmail.com adds you to your MSN Contacts, DO NOT
(I repeat: DO NOT) add it because it's a virus that takes all ur computer
details. PLEASE tell everybody on your contacts because if somebody on your
list accepts it then you get the virus too!(copy and paste this into a new
message because some people do not read forwards!) Don't just forward it!

    Anyone know anything about it?

There's no way you can get a virus off someone by just adding them and talking to them. I think the only way is to accept infected files that he sends to you.

Its just one of those pointless chain mails.

By the way if it is a serious virus (which hopefully someone on this site can clarify) please copy that text and email it to people or tell them on MSN

    Well, according to http://www.saskexperts.ca/CommonQuestions.asp?pid=1004 it's a hoax...
Peter, The short answer is that this is a hoax. If it were truly a virus then MSN would have disabled that account. If only messages about real virus' spread as quickly! The reason that there is a fear about MSN and virus transmission is that people can send you virus' via MSN if you accept the file. Secondly, some Sony BMG Music CD's are a security threat if they are put into a computer for listening, burning or file transfer. The reason is that an anti-piracy monitoring program automatically installs on the computer. This program has extremely good cloaking ability so that you are not aware that it is running in the background, sending info over the internet. In of itself this program is not a security risk, however there is malicious spyware that "piggybacks" on the great hiding properties of the program and you are not able to find it or expose it and the malicious program is able to do it's dirty work and damage your operating system or send information back over the internet. Sony is in hotwater over this because of privacy legislation, especially due to the fact that the user is not asked to agree to the install of the program. There are only about 20 titles that include this Sony software, check out Sony's website for more info. I hope I gave you a good overview. If you have any other questions or require service please contact us.

On a more serious note if someone sends you a message about a block checker don't click that... it actually is a virus and the person sending the message to you is infected
