    what does GWS mean?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 3,455 Mod ✭✭✭✭coolwings

    Cheap

    (GWS = Grand Wing Servo)
also sold as Tec, Supertec, Topaz and a million other names

Not for my models. I already learned the hard way with them.
May be for indoor use, but I wouldnt.

The radio link with my models is not to be messed about with. I tried cost cutting in the past, and found it doesn't pay if the models are good.

    OK,
    Now for the GWS,,,,,

Their failsafes (and gyros) work fine. I've used quite a few. Not a problem.
Their servos are below the standard of several other makes . Not up to the stress and workload I give my servos in my models.
The receivers .... I'm not sure ... I have heard mixed reports, some good, some not so good. I would not recommend that they be used in a model that could be capable of serious injury. Don't want to overdo it here ... but I think it's fair to say the servos & receivers are budget gear, and belong in budget models.

2 personal experiences...I plugged a GWS servo (top of range hi torque BB MG) into an IR£80 receiver and a short in the servo burned the receiver out....a personal friend flying an aerobatic plane (with Tec / Supertec) had a crash due to servo failure - when he complained to his supplier (not me) he was told "what do you expect for that price?"
