This is my first time posting on these boards so excuse me if I posted this is the wrong place.

Anywhoo, my problem is that I re-installed windows xp, the non-destructive away and it didn''t work for me.. so i had to do the destructive one!

I was wondering is there any software to recover some of the files on my hd that windows erased (freeware preferably!)

    :D

There are a few freeware programs around to do the job.. Here's the links to two of them:

    Free Undelete

    PC Inspector File Recovery

Let me know if they do the job for ya. ;)

If you only have one partition (One Drive, probably C:\) then chances could be slim that you'll regain your files.

Windows simply marks sectors used by files as "empty" when you click that delete button. In reality, they are only really gone when other data is written over the so-called empty space.

So if you have one partition, you could have already overwrote files by reinstalling windows.

If not, then install the program to a removable drive like a USB stick or the C:\ drive and dont put anything onto the drive to which you're trying to recover from :)
