    hi guys,
sorry to post here but looked through the entire sticky above and still confused,
i have an xbox and have modded it myself with non solder xecuter ,
its working fine and am happy but i want to replace the hdd for a shiny new one,
mostly to use it in my sitting room as a media player with xbmc,
can i take out old hard drive and pop in a new one without backing up old hard drive,
i have no game saves or anything like that,
i was hoping to put in a 250 gig samsung spinpoint drive as people say they are quiet,
would i be able to use the full 250 gig ?
and can i fill it up with mp3's and play em all through my sound system ?

    so basically in a nutshell,
pop out old hdd, pop in new one and stick in slayers autoinstaller ?
do i have any hope ?

thanks a million for your patience and putting up with my ignorance guys,
thanks in advance for any help

yep you explained it yourself "pop out old hdd, pop in new one and stick in slayers autoinstaller".

If you want to use the old HD again, in another xbox or pc, then you should unlock it with the config magic program for xbox. I dont think i have the newest version of slayer but from what i remember from the one i had (im not 100% sure, but since its a new HD, you can pick the other option the next time if im wrong), I just built/formatted new large HD and picked option C (there was a C option and a F option). The C option gives you a huge F drive to go along with your normal C and E drives, and i think the F option splits the space between F and G. Plus your bios has to support large HD's of that size, but you probably have a new bios so that shouldnt matter.

you never get the full 250gb's or whatever size a HD is, when its formatted. Theres being plenty of posts before here about it and bits and bytes. But you you'll have an awful lot of space for mp3s! Over 240 gigs i think. I have mine full of xvids as well, so dont have to bother looking for dvds anymore.
