im on windows 98 here. i hav a SeaGate 60gb hard drive and all was workin perfect until i removed the drive from the PC instead of the other one by mistake, and now its gone all slow and im gettin that message in the "Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> Performance tab" screen.

in device manager, my primary IDE controller seems to be causin hassle too. it has a yellow exclamation beside it and the properties says:

"This device is either not present, not working or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

Try upgrading the device drivers for this device."

everything seems fine except for the speed decrease.

Has anyone experienced anything like before? any help?

    thanks.

Had a quick search on the MS Knowledge Base.

Not sure if it will help but it's a start... MS KB info

I remember having this message years ago after fitting a new CD Drive...can't remember how I solved it though :D

Make sure the access mode in use for the drive is DMA and not PIO. PIO relies on the processor instead of Direct Memory Access. It was a whore when i found out why my hard drive was going so slow.

    See http://www.blackmaxpc.com/Guides/Enable_DMA.htm for more info.
