Could someone provide me with a link to download software to remove adwarre which has attached onto my computer?Find that they really slow down my comp.

Hopefully something free and not too large a download size.Don't need a virus scanner, just something to get rid of those advertisement pop ups n stuff

    Thanks very much

download adaware , spybot search and destroy , spyware blaster and spyware guard "all free"
and run them in safe mode , you should also disable system restore as the little buggers like to hide in there and reinfect your system from there

How would a spyware blocker have protected you from the WMF hole or the embedded web fonts one ? Even patched up to date, there is still the [strike]possibility[/strike] probability of a decade old hole lying beneath.

download [strike]giant antispyware[/strike] microsoft tm antispyware too

Don't disable system restore - it gets you out of too many problems, simply change the rights on the c:\system volume information folder so the apps can scan it.

Any tips on how I go about changing the rights?

Ok the last few days I'v been getting this information bubble (from the bottom right hand side of the toolbar) telling me my computer is infected. Then it said click here to protect computer from malware threats. So like a chump I clicked it and brought me to malware.com.Downloaded this and ofcourse I had to pay to get rid of the virus.

So I downloaded AVG free edition from my mates comp and ran it today.I'v heard this is meant to be good but I'v run it and no virus was detected.

So what the hell now?Is this info bubble pop-up an actual advertisement itself to make me download malware or what?I was hoping AVG would detect something but nothing came up.

    Confused and pi$sed off

have a look through your add/remove programs list for software you may have installed by acident and remove it, also check msconfig (start, run, msconfig) for any startup entries that shouldn't be there

Yes Adware / Spyware is quite the menance.

I definetly recommend Lavasoft's Adaware, and for general cleaning CCleaner at http://www.ccleaner.com/ .

In some cases however there is spyware that no matter what you do, keeps on coming back. You can delete them / uninstall them, remove registry entries etc... and it keeps coming back. I was an unfortunate victim of this. Tried Adaware and all my usual anti-spyware resources, and while they did succeed in eliminating it initially (plus i manually removed all registry traces of the thing) the blasted spyware always came back from the graveyard.... the annoying ad pop-up kind even if you have no browser open...

For situations like this hijackthis http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html is a useful, advanced, expert tool though you really need to know your system as you could easily do accidental damage.

What can really aid you in your spyware investigations is ProcessExplorer
    http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Turned out my spyware in question was a dll integrated into Windows Explorer, and was linked to the Windows logon service so anytime anyone logged on.. kaboom! Of course this made extracting it very awkard. Normal termination tactics wouldn't work on the dll... as it always managed to resurrect itself (resilient little thing)... So i made a chance discovery on google. Having identified the extract culprit as been Vundo i tried Symantec's removal tool:
    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.vundo.removal.tool.html
Which sadly while been able to detect it and kill its presence in active processes couldn't pernamently kill it, even in Windows safe mode.
    Back to google and:

Followed njustice's instructions in the second post. That finally managed to evict the pesty thing, and following a reboot i got a clean bill of health from
hijackthis as well as been relieved that i wouldn't be stuck with the thing until i reformatted.:)
