    1st you need this

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6768078.htm

    676 8078 Argos number €29.99

Install as per instructions (cd 1st then insert adapter)
Set it to Access point, enter the DS mac Address as a rule in your Firewall (sygate needs this or it will block it)
Share your net connection with Wireless Connection 0 (0 is whatever Xp assigns to it).
In the software that comes with the USB thing add your DSs mac Address in there too and click accept.

Turn on DS create a connection and test it and thats it.

I'm using an open wireless network that belongs to a friend of mine.
Would I be able to use this with my laptop to connect the DS to his network?

Should be able to connect to the router without this, this is for people without wireless routers or ones with mad WEP on it or like me hardwired to internet with no router whatsoever.

My DS can't pick the signal up for some reason.

There are issues with some routers, using the above you could attach it to your laptop and connect to the internet tru that following the above guide.

But check out the router end 1st no point buying something you may not need.

I was wondering if you had to have broadband to go online with DS.
Though I have broadband at school, dial up is what I have at home.

Dial up would be too slow I expect.
Not worth the 30€ it takes to find out imo

I think I read somewhere that some people cold use WiFi with a dial-up connection.
It supposidly runs smoothly on their end put if you are racing against them, they would be jumping around the place.

You need a Wi-Fi game to check the connection.

How do you get your ds's MAC address?

Dont Edit/Manual just do a test connection your Dongle doesnt have WEP on (or shouldnt ) as the MAC address is sufficent security.

    What firewall are you using?

Its as simple as Install set to access point and connect DS.

Only thing that makes it different is firewalls.

Should make it an exception rather than making your pc unsafe. Whats the firewall?

Timans you really should have one, is the Windows XP firewall working its on by default.

Dont know if this is the right thread i am trying to get ds to connect to wifi with acww.I have a netopia wireless modem ,the free eircom one , has anybody managed to get online with this router. When i try to test the connection after 2 or 3 mins it says connected to access point but cant connect to the server.I have manually entered wep key ip addie and stuff, is it the router or me?!!:confused::confused:

How do you set a rule with Norton Firewall?
When I try to do it it only lets me enter ip address, not mac.
The DS is picking up the dongles connection but drops it and says it cannot obtain an ip address :(

Too tired to be fooling around with this b*stard thing!

    Can nobody help me :(

Ok this is what usually works with the Eircom Netopia wireless router:

Go into the manual setup on your wi-di settings on your DS once you pick up the router.

The SSID should already be there.
If you have privacy turned on, enter your WEP key. If you don't know how to get this, check below.

Put in the IP address 192.168.1.250
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.254

    Auto obtain DNS: No

    Primary DNS: 192.168.1.254

Tap "Test connection" at the top of the screen, and you should be connected! :)

To check your WEP key, open internet explorer and enter http://192.168.1.254/ into the address bar.

Click on Wireless at the left hand side.

If you know no-body around could be stealing your broadband, you can turn privacy off. But be carefull, because its safer to have it on! Better safe than sorry!

If you go into the advanced settings you can see a list of WEP keys, simply enter one of these into the WEP key part of the wi-fi settings on your DS. And double check it! It's usually long so its easy to get it wrong somewhere! :)

I was thinking of picking up one of these:

D-Link 54mbps Wireless USB Adaptor with Desktop Stand
    802.11b/g compliant.
    6767419A65UC270292M.jpg
    €39.99

Im guessing there is no incompatabilities with D-link dongle Software?
