Losing against player very bad attitude on STT

Was playing in an STT online the other day and was 9k 2 others left at 2k and 1k

Throughout the game i had been pretty lucky and one of the guys was sending nothing but abuse over the chat at me. Pretty ****ty stuff and making me feel pretty crap.

This seriously affected my game as he stepped up the abuse now that i was way ahead. He used this to his advantage and made a few all-ins with good cards.

I called him 3 times just to try and get him off the table. Looking back i let my anger ruin my game.

I ended up loosing all to him and was cursing myself.

I only found the ignore player button at the end.

Anyone ever had this type of experience.

maybe you should consider toughening up. don't let fcukwits get to you. There's more and more of them taking up the game every day.

OT the last few months i've noticed the manners and general table vibe in live games everywhere has been becoming more hostile and gererally unenjoyable. I suppose it's inevitable with the rise in popularity of poker, but even the fitz has fallen prey to a certain few people whose unfriendliness and general lack of respect has really caused a bad vibe.

Although the vast majority of the time, the atmosphere is great (due in no small part to the admirable efforts of the staff), i find myself more frequently not actually having a laugh when i sit down, because there's some really tense confrontational people ruining the buzz.

Although it really is a case of a few bad apples. Has anyone else noticed this? Or is it just me?

Why didnt you just the "ignore player chat" function?

don't have much live experience but its one of the few perks of online play that you don't have to put up with crap like that. why run the risk of trying to ignore them and trying not to tilt when they berate you?
just turn the chat off on every single player. it serves no function except to run the risk of distracting/tilting you.
    ignorance is bliss.

EDIT: beat me to it breadmonkey :)

One guy gave me abuse for a (marginal at best, in fairness) call I made to hit one of my outs on the river. I just told him 'Make a note, see you again'. Hope he follows me with his notes :D

I don't like this advice, as you miss out knowing if player A is tiliting player B and threatening to 'get him', Player C & D are yapping about football and might not be concentrating on the game, Player E is talking about the 20 pints of beer he had down the pub. All possibly valuable information, which you miss when you don't see the chat.
A recent example for me was a flop with 3 Kings, and someone not in the hand says 'Oh no, I folded K5'. He then says 'sorry'
So I'd recommend to leave the chat on unless someone is getting annoying.

fair enough, but i still think the costs of having it on outweigh the benefits, or, to put it in poker terms, its -EV. for me, any info i gain (assuming the info i get is actually correct and i'm not being mislead which is also a risk) is so marginal, particularly online where most tells come in the form of betting patterns, etc, that its not worth paying attention to.

when i started playing online this used to affect my game a bit, as you say it can have you making crazy calls etc.

the way i approach it now is in a more humerous way, just absolutely take the piss out of whoever it is. Make it into a big joke for YOU. one thing i do though is only type when you are out of a hand so as not to let if conflict with your concentration, or even just play less hands for a while. Be very clever in your responses instead of just saying F U or w anka etc...take the piss out of his country or something, but get him angry - then play your normal game.

I have to say that I actually miss chat. I started playing on VC and it seemed very social, people would always be needling each other about calls, football results etc. I've found on Party/PS there might be one line of chat a game, and that's someone berating a terrible call.

Chat gives you all sorts of information which can be useful to your game. You can see people who may be more likely to call you out of frustration for example. I miss chat...

I like it when people get pissed off with me, because it's so easy to make it even worse, i just sit back and laugh, throw in a comment here and there ("done crying yet?" etc.) and watch them send their stack over to me while trying to get back at me, or get me out of the game.
