Going there next week. Close to Puerto Del Carmen.
    Anyone been there?
Recommend any good bars or restaurants reasonably priced and suitable for the more mature?
    Any comments appreciated.

Word to the wise matagorda is very very very dead. Thats in regards to everything, there is maybe 5 restaurants there so you would better taking a walk to Puerto Del Carmen.

I was in Lanzarote over the Christmas and stayed in Matagorda.

Have to say that Matagorda was quiet, as was said by Willem D. TBH though I didn't find that a problem. It's a really nice area, and very safe. We found that we got the best of both worlds. We were able to kick back and relax, enjoy meeting the people of Matagorda. There's a shopping/pub complex in the area for nights you fancy something quiet (although you can find many a crazy place if that takes your fancy!!). And at the same time, Puerto Del Carmen is only down the road if you want to go to a nightclub or the likes. You could walk it, but taxi's are so cheap you'd be mad to. It's something like 3 euro down into the town, and there's a huge surplus of taxi's so you won't be waiting. I'd imagine that it'd be cheaper than staying in Puerto Del Carmen itself, and it suited us (a family) really well. I know when we were leaving we checked hotel prices, and hotels like Costa Sal and the Sol Lanzarote (probably the better of the two) were dirt cheap if you booked them directly.

If you're looking for an exciting nightlife while you're out there and are planning on going out all the time, then Puerto Del Carmen itself is for you. If it's a slighty more relaxing holiday go for Matagorda.

And something we learned..don't book through a travel agency if you can! It's the biggest waste of money ever. It's extremely easy (and so much cheaper )to book into a hotel directly and to get your own flights.

Hope that was of some help, enjoy your trip!

    Róisín

Thanks for feed-back. I've got the picture.
But just going on a late quickie cheapie to get a bit of sunshine, I hope, instead of these cold dark winter days.
