Thought boards.ie might be a good place to start...

A French friend of mine is looking to come to Ireland to improve his English. He has worked as a Windows/Unix administrator in an IT company in France.

Is anyone here aware of any French IT companies based in Cork, or indeed any Irish companies that work closely with French-speaking companies?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Dell are always on the lookout for foreign speakers in server support roles, definately worth dropping in them your friends cv if they would consider it.

Not an IT job , but Premiere Global Services in Clonakilty are always looking for people with French, German, Italian & Dutch. The money isn't that bad there either.

McAfee just moved to little island afaik, apple and motorola are 2 other names that come to mind. Siemens are a call center but might help with the language thing being on the phone all the time. :)

Yea whats the story with vmware?? I was supposed to have a telephone interview with them a few months back and the ***** never rang..very bad HR staff there but they were just setting up.

They rejected my CV then 2 days later asked me to resend it, then after I enqiuired what was going on they set up this interview which never happened and about 5 weeks later sent me an email to say that I didnt match the intial requirments ?

Didn't matter anyway as I got a fairly decent job. Heard its tech support stuff but fairly high level.

What kind of pay do they offer?

Its very high level Unix administrator support (you really got to know your ****) for their enterprise servers. My friend asked what the highest pay grade was for technical staff was and he was told it was a good 6 figure sum!!!
He looked into the company and apparently they are the third best paying organisation in the US, after NASA and CIA. They also have a reputation for hiring very intelligent people, in the US anyway.

Christ maybe I should have persuded that interview now...:p

Ah well maybe in a year or 2 I might re-apply when I have experience under my belt.

The company im working for now are considering purchase some of their software and I have a 50% chance of being the sole administrator for it once it comes..

On a side note expect in a week or 2 that 1500 jobs will be announced in cork from the Amgen pharamacutcal group.

Id expect plenty of IT admin jobs there. About 50 at least id say depending on their set up.

Will take a year or 2 for the place to be built and all but still.....
