Signal disappearing

I'm new to the Forum, so apologies if this has been raised many times before. I have Sky+ in one room and an ordinary Digibox in another, using a Quad LNB. Sporadically, a cluster of channels will come up as "No Satellite Signal Being Received"; this affects both boxes but not necessarily the same channel at the same time on both boxes. It can last a few minutes or a few hours. It's not resolved by powering off and back on. It's particularly prevalent on Sky Sports. Sometimes, if I lose 401 on the Digibox but then switch to 401 on Sky+, the signal immediately comes back on the Digibox. I took the Digibox to a repair shop where they left it on for a few days and said the problem didn't occur, which seems to point the finger at the Quad LNB. Any suggestions?

Sounds like LNB but tell me what do the quality and strength readings look like? You will find theese in "signal test" under services menu

This is strange! Both boxes are currently showing some channels as "no signal". The Digibox is showing no bar at all for signal strength or quality, although most channels are ok, and I had an ok channel on when I went to "Services" to check the signal reading. On the Sky+ box, one input is showing nothing and the other is showing about 60% for strength and 90% for quality.

Just checked again; still no signal on 501 on either box, but digibox now showing about 90% strength and 10% quality (uh-oh - it's now blank again!!!), while Sky+ is 70/30.

    Does this shed any light?

The dish might be slightly out of alignment. Different channels are on different satellites.

NOT LNB rotation (this would affect all channels equally)

    Or a faulty LNB.

sounds like alignment but impossible to be certain with diagnostic equipment.

Something very similar has been happening to me for the last few weeks. I have Sky+ and a 2nd ftv box. On the ftv box and 1 input on the Sky+ the signal loses it for a few hours every so often, nearly always at night but its starting to happen during the day as well now. Although the signal bar on every input shows a perfect signal some channels disappear while others are ok. It mainly seems to be channels on the lower half of the Ku Band. Only 1 input on the Sky+ remains unaffected at all times. Most of the time though everything is fine.
