I,m thinking of installing win98se on a p2 laptop siemens ,is there a program i can get or download that will test the physical condition of the cdrom ,and tests acess to the setup files and cab files on the cd.I wud hate to spend 50mins installing win98 ,and then have a failed installation because the disc cdrom is damaged or some of the cabs or setup files drivers cannot be read or transferred from the cdrom. Is it a good idea to install win98 on a laptop, will it have all the motherboard files /drivers onboard sound built in to windows 98? i,m wary of this cos i dont wanna be left with a laptop with no operating system.

Copy all the files to the hard drive prolly be easier and run setup from there

It depends on the laptop but I doubt it will have them all. You might want to take a note of the peripherals before the install. That is if the laptop has an OS on it. If not then I'm sure you will get them on the manufacturers site or www.driverguide.com
