I need to buy a few batteries for the 350D and Im wondering about the cheap ones (€10 for 2) on EBAY compared to the Genuine (€30 each).

anyone have any problems with the cheap ones? I know of a person who had a sony camera and a cheap battery made it turn off one day, but that was because its some sort of INFO battery and the camera kept saying "non-original battery" and then turned off. It had to be sent back to sony who fixed it (for €110!)

I'm looking for the same thing for Nikon :)
I think it was that DotOrg said that the cheaper ones worked just as well.

I don't think there's anything wrong, per se, with using 3rd party batteries. I've got 2 or 3 Ansmann (German) batteries for my cameras from technikdirekt and they're fine, in fact on my Olympus P&S camera, it actually seems to outperform the standard Olympus battery.

I'd personally never buy no-name batteries from dodgy dealers on eBay, and definitely not ultra-cheap, supposedly "genuine" batteries. There was a spate of fake Nikon batteries doing the rounds recently which could apparently explode while charging.

There werent fake batteries, they were genuine Nikon ones but they were faulty is all.

The Battery in the D50 has unbelievable life I find.

I want to get another one too, Ill probably go for the Nikon ones.

I know about those, but this was a different thing altogether. See http://www.dpreview.com/news/0311/03112501imitationnikonbatteries.asp.

It's an oldish report, but from reading over on Nikonians.org they're still being sold here and there.

I've been using 2 non-canon batteries I got from ebay for my 300D for close to a year now and I've had no problems. They are a higher capacity than then canon original and for two of them from Ebay, incl. postage, it cost me €20. One original canon battery from Conns is €80. Go figure.

I've been using the cheap EBay batteries with my 10D for nearly 2 years and no problems.

Right, I went for a €27 (including postage) Genuine Canon from canada:

    Ebay Link

Its for the battery grip so for the extra few quid I can justify it.

Get yourself a Hahnel battery - as good if not better than the Canon batteries, and much cheaper.
    here's your battery:

Most of the higher-end Camera shops carry them.

the canon batteries are hugely overpriced. some of the others will fail quicker than the canon ones but often they're less than a quarter of the price so still better value than the canon ones

i have one canon battery for each of my cameras and about 3-4 other brands that work perfectly
