Lads, bit of a head scratcher here.

I have three PCs networked together and everything was working fine until i downloaded Windows updates and installed them (at least that is the only thing that i know changed since it was working and not) .... now, i cant print from that PC, as it cant access the spooler, i can ping from that PC but cant ping it. All the cables etc. are fine ..... nothing has changed physically, or otherwise bar the updates.
What would be the problem ?

seen this issue with some of my work systems..looks like the network settings get corrupted when certain updates were installed..try uninstalling all the network components from the pc that you're having a problem with and reinstalling them..this sorted it out for me anyway..best of luck..don't forget to write down your ip settings

if you're using windows firewall it might have been reset to default when you updated, ie its not set to allow the other ip anymore.

It wasn't on first day though as it we cant use it because we have clients server software running and it doesn't go well with it. I toggled it but it is still the same. I'll check that out so.

with norton internet security you need to get an uninstaller from the internet aswell as the normal uninstall

    Possibly this:

    applies to 2003 and before.

    try this out first :

be sure to disconnect the printer first. unistall printer and software completely. then go to CONTROL PANEL, ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, and scroll down to PRINT SPOOLER, change startup type to AUTOMATIC. Reboot machine, connect printer.

if this doesn't work then try the following :

    1. Run regedit: from the Start Menu, select the Run option and supply the name regedit (and click OK).

    2. (Using the tree view on the left) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler.

    3. If you click on the 'Spooler' folder label (or on the small folder icon to the left of it) in the tree, the right hand display will show the information stored for the Spooler service.

    4. There should be keys with names DependOnGroup and DependOnService. Delete them: right click on the names and select the Delete option (and confirm that you do want to delete the key).

Restart pc and Spooler should be able to start again.

Lads, i am still having a problem uninstalling Norton. It is a nightmare, keeps saying cant uninstall one part as another part needs it.

you could try running windows system restore (start > all Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System restore)

restore your system to a date before you had to problem then run the uninstall from add remove programs and then the norton internet security removal tool.

what version of norton is it ?
