Anyone know how I can get a cheap Dell 2001FP?

Can just about afford 400 euro and my crt is going blue rapidly.

    Help.

    Please.

Just...£2 a month, you can save the sight of thousands of common-or-garden earthworm....

By the way jank, that was a hint to take a serious look at the res of the widescreen and the 2001FP. you may have trouble playing 1080 HD res stuff in the future without scaling. Then again, it does have better brightness and contrast ratio and is a fair bit cheaper.

Thats very nice, especially with the resolution.

I recommend some of the dells monitors(especially in the next 2 weeks) theres a nice 20" inch with 1600 resolution. 99% of monitors at the moment are 1280 most.

Whats wrong with the res on the widesreen 20" dell?
    1680 x 1050 (WSXGA+) seems fine with me...
    1080 HD res
Can you expain this to me?

Looks like a nice monitor and great value. The specs look goodbut...I dont know though how good is the picture compared to the Sony?

I have the Dell 2005FPW and I find it fantastic. Soem games (F.E.A.R(!)) don't support widescreen, which is annoying :(
But if you do any 'real' work on the PC then widescreen is a godsend.

Id love to have a widescreen. Do you find any ghosting when playing games?

I presume that if some games dont support the Widescreen then you can still play it all be it you will have a boxed screen for it.

Any other flaws apart from that wizzard? Syxpak mentioned trouble with the res....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,762 ✭✭✭WizZard

Nah, no ghosting at all. Yeah, if the game doens't support widescreen then you blay with black bars at the side, which isn't too bad at all. Most new games support widescreen, I was very surprised last night when I found F.E.A.R didn't. Maybe there will be support in a future patch.

I've used my PS2 with it via S-Video also and it was quite good.
I've never attempted to use it for any HD content, so I can't comment on what SyxPak said.

    Excellant..

With regards HD, while it would be great to have some type of HD compatability with a monitor, afaik it costs a hell of a lot more.

It doesnt say if the Sony or Acer monitors support it either so should i be that concerned about it.

Regards the Dell, what are their policy on dead pixels? Will I get a replacement straight up if dead pixels appear on it.

//Im leaning towards that monitor for now

I haven't a clue what their policy is, having never had to deal with them in that regard. However, I have heard that if you push them for a replacement they will offer one.

I'd double check that with a sales rep though, if I were you.

We may have a winner there

More or less the exact same specs as the Dell but comes with 2 speakers and is about 65 euros cheaper, but the deleivery will take about 30 of that of it.

    What do ye guys think..

Thats a cool site powerhousedan, thanks.

Yeah its a good site alright. Some stuff is ALOT cheaper than most places... only bad thing is the 20pound delivary charge...

The Dell has 16ms refresh but the Acer has 8ms.

    Ain't that a big difference?

Not talking about the Acer. Im talking about the Philips.

Going to have to mull it over over these two the Dell or Philips.

Both seem pretty good specs and pretty good value aswell.

Hate making these kind of decisions....

The Dell is grey-to-grey afaik, while the acer is black-to-white.

Not all response times are created equal. Unfortunately, companies/shops who specify the response characteristics in greater detail are few and far between.

I'ver heard good first-hand reports about the 2001FP, and the 2005FPW has better specs. The HD scaling issue would be my only concern, though that depends as much on the graphics card, drivers and media player as it does on the monitor.

I was looking at one of these a few days ago...

    Philips 190S6FS

    Thought it looked quite good.

Newbie here. Will be buying a monitor myself so I'm interested in this discussion.

    I found this web site

    http://www.prad.de/en/guide/vergleich_auswahl.html

which seems to have every monitor under the sun (2574 they say) with all the details. You can pull up both the Dell and the Philips side-by-side (use ctrl) and compare.

You're right jank, there isn't much between them. The only differences I noticed are:

Dell has S-video in, Philips does not.
Philips has speakers, Dell does not. (Is this true? Does the Dell not come with speakers?)
Dell is "pivotable", Philips is not.

They quote a price of 444 for the Philips, from somewhere in Germany though.

Look at the panel manufacturer.....the same!

Tough decision. Let me know which one you go for please! I'll probably get one of these myself. The S-video might swing it for me.

I can confirm that the Dell doesn't come with speakers. You can pick up a "SoundBar" for it though for cheap off the Dell website, or if you push them on the phone they will throw one in with the monitor.
It attaches under the monitor. Neat idea.

I have an Acer AL1914 and it is excellent and great value for money .... its been getting glowing reviews ... if I had to nitpick I would say it can be too bright..

But the point i wanted to make is that speakers on LCD's are by and large weak if not complete shíte ... dont let built in speakers swing it, they are not worth paying extra for

    Savastore also have a 19" Samsung (8ms) for £184 (http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?product_id=10279997&catalog_name=Savastore&page=customerreviews&pid=185)

All the reviews i have read on the acer they have all used there Xbox 360 with it also which i plan doin so all ya need is the Vga adapter... and you will get HD-tv views on it....Its ment to be excellent another reason why i bought it. and also the 8ms res it good.

Yeah i think that acer would be better then the 20" dell, like an extra inch big wow  and like has a better responce compaired to the dells 16ms

Can I ask you guys a question please about VGA and DVI...

I was comparing the Acer to the Dell and the Philips. The Acer is about half the price, and as far as I can see, the reason must be that it doesn't have a DVI connection, only a VGA.

I'm a novice with this stuff, afaik DVI means digital and VGA is analogue.

So how can you get HD-TV through a VGA connection? I don't understand all this, thanks for any help.

The philips u pointed out has the same panel as the dell.. They're the exact same monitor basically.. Ordered me a 2405.. should have it next week.

    Thanks lads.

Im either going for the Dell or the Acer.

The dell has loads of extra features like PIP and PBP 4 usb ports and also the DVI-Input never mind that its a 20" too.

Im swaying that way but is it worth an extra 300 euros, i dont know..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

300 euro is alot to pay for the extra inch.....BUt if ya have it why not spend it? Thing that would turn me off the dell is the 16ms res.....

The Philips 19" I posted earlier... here

I think it was €433 all in. Sounds reasonable, what do you think?

I have the 15" version and think it is a very nice monitor.
I know it doesn't have speakers, but as someone else said, the speakers that you get built into monitors are pretty low spec anyway

Is that with VAT & Delivery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

Yea its with VAT and I think the delivery would be about 15euro unless you went for dhl which is around 60ish.
I'm still not sure its the exact same one meself though, doesnt say anything about sxga?

The only difference I see is no mention of sxga and also it's a 190S6FS and not a 190S6FS/00. I checked that price again and it was actually €397.
Um, €68 euro for an S and a /00 whatever those are?

    Hi PowerHouseDan,

Please could you explain what the VGA adapter is?

    Thanks very much,
