    infinity..................................and beyond

no seriously. the long run in sng's anyway is at least 10,000

although you should have a fair idea of your long run expectation after about 3 or 4 thousand i think.

cah games i don't know....someone else more knowledgable will help you with that

1,000,000 hands should probably about cover you,

If its major tournies you are talking about, then its probably longer then your lifespan simply because you'd probably only play 6-8 a year and even thats a lot. In STT's and Cash games I'd expect it to be lower (and lower again, respectively).
The is a thread in this forum (started by La Fortezza) about a discussion on 2+2 on this very topic.

Realistically, 100,000 hands should give you good approxamations of what your hourly expectation is in any particular game. It will take far fewer hands to see if you're a winning player a the same game. Reliable information will start to emerge after 10,000 - 20,000 hands (about 300 hours play on a single table online). for live play, it's obviously more difficult to track, but I think taht after 200 - 300 hours at a particular game reliable information regarding expectations should emerge.

For example, after 350 hours of the 1/2 Hold'em Omaha cash game last year I can reasonably say that my expectation in the game is €13.10 per hour. However, my standard deviation for the same game is €194, meaning that I can reasonably expect fluctuations of up to about 600 euro an hour, which sounds about right.
