Xbox 360 to Hi-Def plasma via VGA

This question is kinda of in a grey area between A/V forum and Xbox, so my apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place.

Last night I tried to connect my DVD recorder with Component out to a VGA cable to the TV (42" Samsumg HD Plasma). I then set the DVD recorder to output progressive via component. It didn't work as the TV didn't recognise the signal coming from the DVD recorder. I think it expects a PC to be connected to the VGA socket.

That's all fine. My question is, if I get an X-Box 360 VGA cable and try to connect that to the TV, will I have the same problem? Does the X-Box somehow send a "PC-like" signal to the TV to fool it into thinking that a PC is connected?

Another question: Would the picture from a VGA cable be better or worse than that using the standard component connection which comes with the X-Box 360 premium? I presume that the VGA is also Hi-Def?

    Thanks a lot

your exactly right, the xbox will output a "PC" type signal and the TV will accept it and display it fine. i have mine hooked up via a vga to DVI convertor running perfectly.

    vga cable is HD

I ordered one for Lik-Sang. The cost is about €47. The only problem now is how much (if any) duty I get landed with. I'll let you know.

    FYI:

Took 10 days (8 business days) to arrive from Lik-Sang. No duty charged, so total cost was €47

Just to go slightly off topic for a moment:

Why is there no Xbox 360 ---> DVI cable ?

There is no need for one.

Got my joytech VGA cable today from play.com (took 1 week to arrive) my tv doesnt have a HD input but does have VGA, I have to say I'm blown away with the improvment, its crystal clear. You notice it most with little text, its brilliant!

So using a vga cable which is then plugged into a dvi converter and then into the tv is just as good? ie. full HD?

    Indeed good sir.

DVI has already been surpassed by HDMI for digital cables and VGA is still the best analogue cable, so no need for DVI.
