Fitz Wednesday rebuy - I suck.

Last night was quite a weird game. Normally its quite a weak field and I know very few of the players but it was a stronger field last night. Very mixed and tricky table for me (table 1) with some cash game gamblors and some newbie maniacs.

Having played fine to the break and gotten no luck I've done the full Monty and have 4000, 3rd rebuy and topup after the last hand! - don't know if this was wise but I reckoned I had a strong table image and that some of the gamblors might either walk into a monster hand (if I got one) or I might be able to make a few plays (plus I didn't want to sit and fold for two hours mainly - get badly outdrawn once and go home yet!!) so I spent the full whack. Anyway after a bluff gone wrong (3 callers!! to my preflop bet) and paying my blinds I'm in the SB at 100/200 level with 3300. Jason makes it 600 in MP1 (he has about 5k) and for some reason I'm suspicious. The way he bet it "felt" a little wrong. Anyway I look down and see KK. I have a quick look at Jason and hes looking back very steadily at me but I decide he has a bit of a range here - not very wide but there is only one hand I fear so I go all-in. BB folds and Jason says "unlucky Olly". AA.

I ask the dealer for a king of clubs on the river please. Oscar says he reckons I have it in the bag....

    Flop 678

    Turn 4.

I lose the bottle to ask for a King and instead ask for a 5.

    River King of clubs!! SWEET.

Jason takes the beat on the chin and doesn't give up - if anything goes on from there to play the best game I've seen him play in a while. To be honest he gets too bored with a middling stack sometimes and walks himself into trouble but not last night makes some great reraises and some good pushes. Rarely shows a hand.

Anyway I'm stacking my new chips and calming down after handing out a serious dogging, when Ray (cash game gamblor big style) pushes all-in for 7500 on my BB in MP3 at the 100/200 level. He's been going all-in and speech playing ever since he arrived late at the table and generally showing decent holdings when called AQ and JJ and the like. Although he did have Q9 once against AQ but hit two pair!

Anyway I'm laughing at this push because everyone knows he's probably got a decent hand and therefore if he gets called he's f**ked and if he doesn't get called he gets 300, then I look down at two black aces!! EVEN SWEETER. I'm going to be the guy who takes advantage of his stupidity. All-in and I double through his AKo. Now I've got 13500 and the average stack is ~6500.

We then have a "misdeal" (incorrect ruling but it wasn't explained to Oscar correctly) and it turns out I have AK in my SB!! (BB dropped a card of the table after the deal - Oscar may have thought it was the dealers mistake, and since the guy was a newbie I didn't make a big deal of it. Personally I felt the BB's hand should be dead and the hand should have played on but I didn't really care and I think its good to be nice to new players in general)

Then Ray bleeds down to 1100 at the 100/200 level and its raised utg to 500 by Chinese young guy (not a bad player but too aggressive) and I look down at KK again. I think about flat calling in the hopes that Ray on the BB will go all-in and with China boys tank at 4000 before the hand I can maybe reraise him all-in and catch him after he calls Ray. But then I'm worried about a cheap good ace limper and Ray may not put himself all-in if he can call and see a flop as he's guaranteed a caller post flop anyway. So I decide to raise to 3000. Overraise really but I thought china boy might be in a gambling place and a min raise while getting a call for sure would kill any post flop action unless he hits an ace. Ray goes all-in but China boy lays down (after a bit of a think) what I reckon was quite a weak ace. A9 sooted or something. Not worth an extra 500 chips to let that sh1te see the hand. Ray has QT. Flop comes AQ3 high and a T on the river gives Ray two pair. Fair enough karma wise I reckon :)

After that I get caught between this newbie polish guy on my immediate left who hands out a few serious doggings and calls off some well played bluffs with third and fourth pair and those who are trying to take him on. My stack dwindles and dwindles. A few steals but not enough. One AK hand.

Finally down to two tables shorthanded and I've only got 9000 and the average is 12000ish.

I'm not happy with what has gone on but my cards have been bad and while my reads have been good it hasn't helped my stack. Then I have a steal not work out and I have 6500 (raised and reraised and 64o didn't look so good). I push with 68o and get it back to 8000 (blinds are 500/1000 at this stage). I'm caught between pushing all-in on my steals and raising to 2500 maybe my brain isn't working too well or I'm just going for a stack. Personally I think I'm just played badly. (Correct answer - push all-in until I get over 11,000-12,000 but do I do this? F**k no!) I bleed away another 2500 on a steal gone bad. I was tempted to call here with JTo for a 40/60 shot when Jason puts me all-in from his BB after my 2500 raise. He shows an ace after I fold but said he wouldn't have called an all-in. Maybe. I'm left with 5500 and I decide that a push in the next hand will work so I don't call. What would you do here? Answer call I guess.

I instead push next hand with K8o and it works and I've got 7000. My BB gets minraised and called so I call and miss. I'm in the manure business and we're down to 11 players. Average stack 22-23k. Jude raises utg to 2500 and I'm on the button with 4700 and AJo. I think I have overs. I decide to push all-in Polish guy in the SB eventually folds an ace. Jude calls with 99. Ace on the flop and I could be back in this game with 11,000 in the pot. River 9. I get the real hardcore bubble - F**k all.

Not happy with how I played the middle phase of this tournament at all.

Any and all kick in the ass comments welcome.

    Hey rounders,

10th is the bubble and wins entry the bubble game. 11th is nothing and exactly what I deserved for my performance last night.

I dunno if the above was a report so much as a rant. Sorry to those who waded through it and wasted their time me thinks I should get a blog to vent on to....I'm just pissed at my play last night. The pokah gods gift me chips and what do I do with them - f**k all!!

Does anyone else feel pressure to "close the deal" as it were when you get good cards and a stack in a game?? I remember I cracked aces in a live game a few months ago (with JJ when I was a shortie) and I felt a responsibility to play my absolute A game following the slice of fortune and I went on to a headsup chop and played some great stuff. Last night I basically had two double throughs handed to me and I went and bled away chips like total dead money. :o

Sometimes this game is quite frustrating.

Cheers for the comments rounders I'll see you Saturday (and maybe tonight in the SE if I need to get last night out of my system!!)

    Olly.

    Hey Olly,

    Great report.

You were unlucky with the KK hand, that kinda turned the night around, snd put you on the back foot a bit.

You've already recognised the limping as a bad idea late on, it would be far worse if you wondered what you did wrong. We all have bad nights.
