I'm moving and want to hook up to the internet - wondering is there any way of skipping the eircom line rental (€20 upwards) as i'l never really need the landline otherwise. It's slightly out of town so is there a way?

You can get Naked DSL for about a tenner in other EU/OECD countries, and then pay your ISP of choice.

But since eircom have a monopoly on copper they can stiff you for three times that.

Please post your location as that is the Key word for BB here, unless you live across the boarder where they have finally got 100% BB coverage, up from 98.5% last year.

Every home and business in Northern Ireland can now access a broadband service after ...
"Government has invested almost £10m in delivering broadband across Northern Ireland and this provision is key to ensuring that the infrastructure, necessary to compete successfully in the global market, is in place."
Our lot has invested a lot more than three times £10m and what have we got to show for it ?

Capt'n, she's slightly outside of Tralee town.

Unfortunatly, to the best of my knowledge there isn't a decent reputable wireless solution available in Kerry, nor are there any plans. If you want the internet, you'll be paying Eircom for some time to come.

Your phone number 066xxxxxxx is in the exchange TRALEE.
This exchange is on our current Network Build Programme for 2006.

    Aiden,
I know of a guy a few miles outside of Tralee who started up a wireless group scheme. What side of the town are you on ?

I'm not sure if line rental is needed or not but I can put you in touch if you wish.
