They are a total rip off.

They take about 50% of the money out of the game. They advertise big prize funds, but they still take about 50% of the money. That is HUGE.

    Casinos dont take hardly anything.

Also - as they are subject to pub closing hours, after the break the blinds go up something like every 4 hands !! Bleh.

I hate the way at self deal tournaments everyone even guys who can barely shuffle in the first place keep on offering the deck to the next player cut before dealing as if he could fix the deck if he tried. It just looks awkward and wastes time. I usually reply when im offered to cut the deck "No go ahead i think we all trust each others integrity here".

Hee Hee, yeh but when you sometimes get offered the pack to cut, and the 'dealer' has exposed a 2 as the bottom card, you can be very mean and just put the bottom card on top as the 'cut' .... that's if you were mean and a bad man, and didn't like the fellah in the small blind :D

Whats even funnier is when they offer the cards for you to cut and they still have them clasped tightly in their hand. Then you have to say "Put them on the table". I do however think you should cut the cards, with some dealers it is the nearest thing to a shuffle the cards will get.

Yeah fair enough but the dealer could just as well cut them a few times himself. It just looks terrible and appears so bloody ceremonious or something.

I cringe everytime someone hands me a deck to cut. I usually just tap the top of the deck. Usually people take this well and think I trust them. where as I really think they're just ****ing idiots who are under the illusion that the game is honourable and masculine

So what's this cringing when asked to cut the deck about? I'm new to Poker and thought it was the norm.

God, haven't played that in years. And we'd all damn sure cut the cards when one guy in particular could perfectly shuffle the Ah to the 8th or 9th card down to make sure his partner always got it! :)

110 is where the real action is tho!! :D

Pah, 110 ... a dilution of the hard stuff.

25's is the real deal, your 45's and 110 is piffle.

25's partners is where you learn every single sign (poker word is tell) that god ever invented.

25's 9's (3*3 partners) is like studying for a degree in genetic physics or something.

    What a game !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,450 ✭✭✭califano

Must be a wild west game. Probably where cutting the deck started from damn it!.

So the winner buys a million trillion taz bars?!

LOL.... brilliant Culchie. I play 25 regularly.
Oh man a 9 can be some craic. Partners is a great game too but how often have u been caught out by 'boarding out' or playing into your partner not knowing they have trumps and taking a trump card off them?

The old(er) people take it very serious altogether! :v:

Normally you win 5 matchsticks, but on special occassions, you get to buy the next round of drink.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,639 ✭✭✭Iago

been a long time since I played 25's or 45's for that matter.

Have to agree with Culchie here, 25's is where it's at. Partners is a nightmare though, a lot of practice beforehand is an absolute must!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭shroomfox

No way! 110 kicks 25's ass out of the water! You've got all the tells, and some actual strategy as well, which is more than can be said for 25.

I've played games of snap which were more taxing than 25, especially when you're playing in the pub, and all the older generation give out to you when you lead with a trump and just think you're an idiot, but you actually have ALL TRUMPS LEFT and it's THEIR FAULT because they were holding on to all their BEST CARDS and left it up to YOU to beat the guy on TWENTY!

    Phew.

(I've retired from both of them though. As you can see, it's probably for the best.)

played my first pub game wednesday night, have to admit i really enjoyed it..

three tables, got to the final table of 8 with the shortstack, decided to go all in with my first hand, my hand was KQ off suit, KQ9 came on the flop so i more than doubled up and ended up finishing fourth, so i get in free for next week, which is nice..

    On topic though:

Pub tournaments = badness. The kind that makes you cry on the outside.

25 supplied lots of turkeys for dinner around christmas when i was a nipper. I won't hear a bad word said about it. Oh the arguments in partners games.......

    Vicious.
