Have some wood work projects planned and need to buy a router. Saw a Ryobi router and table in Caulfields Galway for 190 euro but not sure if its good value.

Have plans for building my own table but it might be easier to buy one ???

What should I be looking for in a router ?

Also interested in wood working course as I need a refresh (did course in school). Tried FAS, GMIT, GTI (Fr Griffin College) but no luck. Anyone know of courses in the west - Athlone, Ballinasloe, Roscommon are all within easy travelling distance.

    Appreciate your comments.

It really depends on what type of work you plan to do with it basically they come with collets in two sizes either 1/4inch or 1/2 inch the 1/2 inch is obviously more suited to heavier work and would allow you greater cutting capacities with it mounted in the table however as the 1/2 inch collet ones are larger they are more cumbersome to use freehand.
Personally I use the smallest DeWalt router and it is excellent however I have never mounted it into a table.
If I was to recommend a router I would have to say look at the Trend range they specialise in routers and attatchments and tables and do excellent package deals.

I have no experience of the Ryobi router or table but seems like a good price for a router and table however shop around and look at a few different models and see what feels comfortable in your hands.
There are also some excellent router books and magazines available dedicated to routers and associated jigs that may be worth looking at before hand to give you ideas of various tables and jigs and what they would allow you make.

I would imagine that there are evening classes in Athlone, in some of the schools for adult education. I was enquiring about them before the christmas, in Athlone. I was led to believe that there were no instructors available. of course I jumped at the opportunity to teach, having 30 years experience. But i was told I did not have the experience...

I would have to do a 12 week teacher training course, 2 evenings per week, at 800 euro's, and then I could apply. At the moment I can't fit it in, but who knows.

Atlantic were doing a 1/4 B&D. If you bought the 12 piece router bit set for €40 you got the router free. Router alone was €90

Athlone Community College have a beginners Wood Course starting next week.

Atlantic Homecare (Galway) have a 1/4" Plunge Router (B&D) for 43 euro. Didn't see the offer you mentioned.
