Found memory stick

First off of this is in the wrong forum please move.

On the 46c this morning 18/1/2006 I found 64 MB Dell USB memory stick. On it is some college work, so I am assuming the person who lost it was going to UCD. The assignments on the stick indicate that it is probably owned by a Denise Duffy taking a module Personal Effectiveness. Wouldn't like to see a student's work go missing. So if anybody knows the owner of this can they PM me and I will post it out.

Put this in the UCD forum... she might even be a boardsie.

But if I put it there and the person doesn't go to UCD (I am only assuming they go there from the bus route) they may never see the post.

    LOL, don't be too obvious.

    I can imagine the conversation.

Me:Hello I found this memory stick that maybe one of your students dropped.

    UCD: A memory what?

Me: A memory stick. Like a floppy disk.

UCD: OK (Unsure)... and what course does this student do.

Me: Well that is the problem. I don't know. I'm not sure that the person is in UCD, it is just a hunch.

UCD: So why are you calling here...

I'm sure I could continue on and on and on......

Anyway I am trying to do the right thing, just I'm a bit lazy. I don't want to be looking up telephone numbers and then be transfered around, and have to go through the whole story again only to find out after a couple of days, when somebody on boards reads it and says, actually that person does a night course in Trinity and they lost it on there way to work.

It's probably more likely that the student is in UCD seeing as they give out free 64mb USB key's/flash memory (not memory sticks) for attending some computer computer class at the beginning of term. They're probably Dell as well. Everything in UCD is.

Leave a note on the bus tomorrow morning (perhaps stick it to the window where you found it?), telling the owner to 'PM' you (de8o) at boards.ie, I'm sure they'll figure it out if they're despertae to get it back.
I dunno, but it's an idea?!?

Do UCD have a set email convention for students or is it based on your CAO number?

I also think the UCD thread would be a better place for this. Surely a friend of a friend of a friend knows somebody that takes that module

A bit nosey and slightly dishonest but if you're stuck...

.. check the memory stick for some Office documents (such as Excel, Word) and check the Author of the file.

Should be rheir name if they logged on to the network or alternatively were on their own PC while doing it.

Best of luck and good to see there are some genuinely honest people out there!

EDIT: Apologies.. should have all read the original post clearer as you've already established a name

He could, yes, but would you?

I certainly wouldn't, you won't get pestered on boards.ie, because it would result in a banning for the perpetrator, whereas anyone can hide their number and pester you with nuisance calls. I'm not saying this would happen but it is a possibility, why take the risk?;)

    lol, i have another one.

Go into UCD and leave up notices about the found USB Key. leave them in densely student populated areas, canteen etc.

Could you not ring UCD and ask if the student is on the register. If so, say you have some lost property for her to collect.

I think thats the easiest way.

try randomly shouting out her name when your on the bus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,606 ✭✭✭Jumpy

Well yes I would...and I thrive on prank phonecalls to me....Love messing with them, wasting their credit, letting some stress out with abusing them...probably just me though. :)

    This suggestion wins... hands down

But also... if you know her name... and you think she might go to UCD... ring them up and ask... maybe

    Email denise.duffy@ucdconnect.ie

the only problem is the name might be too common so cc it to denise.duffy1@ucdconnect.ie and denise.duffy2@ucdconnect.ie just to be on the safe side. I'd say posting it in the UCD forum might be handy as someone in there might know her

If some of her work is on it, would there not be a student number on it also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,850 ✭✭✭Cianos

The easiest thing to do is definately ringing the college. One phone call and it could be all sorted...tell them the name of the student and the course, they tell you if she is attending or not, they take your number to give to her, she rings you and you give it to her. No messing. And she may be hot too:D

So who is up for the challenge.
    rules:
    1. I will put my faith in boards and wait for somebody to post me an answer.
    2. You will use whatever means you can, ie calling UCD, shouting on a bus etc to find the owner

The winner is the one to locate the owner.

The winner will only receive his/her prize when the owner is reunited with the memory stick

The prize. Knowing you have done a good deed.
