    Hi,
I have a large avi file on my hard drive that I cant open for some reason. It says that its possible that I dont have the correct codecs? Anyone know how I can sort this out?

    Any help much appreciated
    Cian

Hmm...GSpot is saying that it is "corrupt AVI header" and that its not likely going to be playable :(

try divfix to remove any errors from the file

VLC player has played any AVI file i've thrown at it (that wasnt corrupted obviously).

You could try Nimo's codec pack too

"Use VLC" would definitely be my answer for this. But if the file is corrupt...

    Corrupt file = Goodbye avi

not necessarily if you use divfix. it cuts out all the bad parts and leaves the file intact except it jumps at a few points (the bad bits that it cut out)

I'll second getting the K-Lite Codec pack. I have VLC too, but I prefer using Windows Media Player.

    Get it at: www.free-codecs.com

Has the potential to ruin the file though with a big chunk getting cut out..If you dont mind the hop-skip-jump approach it may be worth a go
