IP address banned

I was suddenly banned from a site I often post at for no obvious reason. I understand that IP bannings usually cause a bunch of people with similar IDs to be banned, which is rubbish. Is there any way around this?
    I'm using a wireless connection.

    use dialup for that site?

  • I don't have dial up at all. Only a wireless connection.

Ah - then you'll have to find a proxy.

It depends who you're with. My IP used to change quite regularly with IOLBB. Most message boards that I posted on listen 4 or 5 pages of IP addresses from my connection.

Unless you have a DHCP connection and your range of IPs haven't been banned, the only way to get around it is to use an anonymous proxy server. There are various free anonymous proxys around, though it might slow down your connection speed by quite a bit.

unlikely to get a new ip.

You can renew your IP address on any network by opening a command prompt and typing ipconfig /renew But at jimmy says, you will most likely get the same one back.

Of course, this won't work if you have a router connected to the DSL modem - you will only renew your local (private) ip address, you won't renew your public address.

Only real option is a proxy.

A mate had the same trouble with a forum belonging to some football management game. He ended up just emailing them and asking why he was banned and to un-ban him.
