Hope someone here can help coz Pc world cant. I have a pc which is in Pc worlds care. I was on here a few months ago trying to find out why it kept shutting off, well it was the mother board its wrecked. The motherboard in this pc is an Intel D845GVSR (Seabreeze) Mainboard. This is extremely hard to get, I was even on to an Intel stockist in Ireland and I was told it is obselite now. What I want to know is is there an alternative motherboard that i can substitute my one with or do I have to get the exact one. It supports intel celeron 2.8 400 MHz system bus.
    Any Ideas much appreciated

Well... I know this isn't the FS forum but I will have an IntelD865 for sale as soon as DHL get their fingers out and deliver my new board. Check out the Intel site and some reviews for it in the mean time.

But would I be able to use the D865 instead of the D845, Basically I need to know can I use a different board or do I have to use the same as the one inside the case.????

What kind of PC is this from? A lot of pc world type brand name PC's (packard bell, etc) may have non-standard fittings, preventing you from installing a standard ATX size motherboard. Other things, such as the power supply may not work with standard boards either (a typical Dell gotcha there).

Theres your first mistake I'm afraid.

Recommend you get your PC back and refuse to pay as they haven't fixed it.
    Motherboard: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=312219&cks=PRL
and you can pick up a case with PSU for around €50 if this doesn't fit your old case.

Throw somebody nice another €50 and they'll happily relocate everything in the new case.

Thanks alot guys. The guy I have been calling and talking with in Pc world said he would do it for me free if I could get a motherboard myself.
I really appreciate the advice, its great to have a knowledge centre like this.
I was looking at something like this m/b but I dont know if it would work, what do you think:

The only thing I know about mine is that its the ATX standard. Donnu nothing about emachines and their set up. Someone here must have/had one?

A lot of brand-name PC assemblers have motherboards and PSUs (sometimes even CD/DVD/Floppy drives) made to a modified spec to prevent their customers from using standard parts as spares.

Guys I appreciate all the help, I used to think I knew a fair bit bout my pc but not as much as I thought.
Heres more info. I put in my own dvd burner(No problem) I put in some ddr that I bought from a friend (No Problem). Im not sure that standard parts wont go into it.
Anyone know if that m/b I listed will work with mine

Sorry guys im back again, I bought a nice little m/b in maplin for €82. built the comp for the first time ever. It all seems to be working fine. Except there is one beep when it is loading and searching for drives cards etc.
Also the windows xp that I have on this came pre installed from the old emachines I had, now when I boot it up i get the windows screen asking would you like to boot in safe mode, with networking, command prompt, last known good config etc. Two questions:

    1) what is this beep

    2) Because the hard drive contains some of the files for windows restore and the rest is on the 2 restore discs I have from emachines, would the hard drive or something else belonging to emachines have recognised that I changed the m/b

Also I heard in another tread someone speaking of resetting the cpu, How do I do this???

    Any Ideas much appreciated.

I dont think I have explained things properly. Ok here goes: First of all the only pc I ever had collapsed and died because of m/b trouble, I then went off ad bought a similar m/b. I salvaged the cpu, cd/dvd drives, hard drive etc from the old EMACHINES. With this emachines was 2 restore discs for time of emergency when you needed to reinstall. XP came with this machine preinstalled and could only be restored using these 2 discs. I now have the entire system assembled and I also noticed that the BEEP i get happens when it tries to boot or read the hard drive. Since I restored xp I still get the same screen safe with networking, safe with command prompt last known good config etc. So restring it twice last night had no effect. There is nothing on the discs I need everything is on discs since before it broke the first time (EMACHINES).
What I need to know is how come even after I restored xp still nothing happens it just loops and restarts if I press anything on the windows error screen(safe with networking, safe with command prompt last known good config etc). Have EMACHINES somehow set it up in such a way that it will only work with the old m/b????? because it sure doesn't seem to be working.
1 other thing when I insert the restore discs I get 2 options

    1) restore xp

    2) boot to command prompt (which by the way works fine, command prompt is ok)

Hope that clears it up a bit.

    Main things:
1)I do not have a pc now just one that will not start windows
    2) Do not care about info on disc at the moment
    3) It is a copy of xp preinstalled on the hd by EMACHINES

    Any New Ideas??????

    Thanks

    Eddie
