Why Do "Mates" become Wxxxxks when promoted ?

Me and xxxx started work for the same bank, same day, 9 yrs ago.Both of us had not a clue, so we helped each other, went for pints, Went on holidays together, chased women,discussed in detail our shortfalls, I even dated his sister for 3 yrs, so basically was part of his family,still am ! Before xmas he was promoted to head of our dept..Since then... WALLOP ! No Pints, talks down to me, Wont sit with me at breaks etc, he now mingles with "middle management". It,s like were never mates ! I am not too bothered, I earn a good salary,Getting married next year etc..But we were great mates, But once he got the keys to the excutative toilet..That was it, He hangs his keys on his belt etc.. Can someone you knew and loved so much as a mate change so much ? Comments welcome ...M

That's quite pathetic and if i were you i wouldn't be long about saying it to him as well and if he ignored you then id tell him where to go,fu*k that **** no one needs "mates" likew that,if that were me in your shoes i wouldn't be long telling him just what i thought oif his sad behaviour

Anyway, OP, I have seen it happen before, but tbh, sometimes you never really know what somebody is really like, and this guy has shown his true colours. You are better off without a friend who is like that - in fact he was never really a friend at all. He's a shallow, backstabbing knob head. That's why he's a manager now.

To the OP - don't worry about it. You're "mate" was obviously always just a stuck-up, elitist c**t waiting to escape from his workaday shell. I've seen it before a million times. It's just a sign of immensely week character and you're better off not knowing him. I've a mate like that. The lads and I don't work with him but every promotion he gets during the week turns him into more and more of an arrogant asshole at the weekends (not returning your calls on purpose to gain attention, clicking his fingers at louge girls and waitresses, etc). Suffice to say he won't have any friends soon enough. Just accept that some people are too f**ked up and insecure to handle any kind of success, burn your bridges and move on
