Online Limit Holdem

Does anyone here play Limit Holdem (at around 10-20 limit, i.e. blinds are 5, 10, but the betting rounds are 10 and 20)? Where do you play? Do you play longhanded or shorthanded (and why)? What's your hourly rate? What is considered a good (plausible) hourly rate?

    Thanks,

    Mike.

I used to play a hell of a lot of limit holdem but found it too volatile. I still do well in limit tournaments though. When you run bad you really run bad but then again when you are running good you run gooooot. I once lost 3K in a few weeks at the game but also made 2K in a single day. I played mostly 5/10 and occasionally 10/20. My BB/100 was about .75BBs Don't ask me how much that was an hour. These were all on 6 handed tables. The full tables are less swingy.

Thanks for the info Nicky, but when you say BB do you mean Big Blind, or Big Bet? Can one expect to make 2 Big Bets per hour?

I remember an article by Daniel Negreanu (Play Hours, Not Results: http://www.pokerpages.com/articles/archives/negreanu02.htm) where he says that when he started, his hourly rate was 2 Big Bets per hour. Would that translate to 4 big bets per hour online (where you get twice as many hands)? It makes sense, but surely the figures are too big? Can one really expect to make $80 an hour with a bankroll of $3k?

Let me know what you think of this.

    Thanks,

    Mike.

I mean Big bets. I think 2 big bets per hour in a live game is very optomistic. Even a very good player can find it dificult to make 1BB/100 at stakes of 5/10 and above online.

You can't easily expect to make $80 an hour at 5/10. An excellent player might make half that and that would be 3 or 4 tabling. Also 3K is a little underfunded for 5/10 unless you have a good rakeback deal. I would recommend 5K for this level.

How much limit holdem have you played. When I first started at 5/10 I had to prepare myself to run bad for a long period before I got into my rhythm and got back in the green. At one point I was down a lot of money before turning things a round. You really won't see how good you are until you've put in a minimum of 50,000 hands. Also don't go near short handed games unless you have done some serious readin, preferably Lederer or Matros.

Just a warning but mentally you need to be very tough for limit holdem. It could drive you crazy. :) especially when you get called down by ace high and he spikes his ace on the river for the 3rd time in a row. The amount of keyboards that need replacing in my house....

Apparently it's more than possible in the 10/20 game here in Linz :) I'm looking to get the bankroll to see how true that is :)

I jumped in at the deep end having glanced over Jennifer Harmans bit in SS2
straight into the 6 handed tables, I just kept my finger very near the raise button, I did have a very good rb deal with pokershare at the time though. I would have been capping it on every street with the ace high against you before catching on the river. I regained my sanity last month though and am back to NL
