I was fascinated by the first series of "Anatomy for Beginners", were they televised actual human dissections / autopsies.

Last night they showed an autopsy, focusing on heart attacks, and hardening of the arteries.

It's on tonight, Wednesday & Thursday.

Channel 4, 23:05pm, Autopsy: Life and Death (T)

Watched it myself, I would consider myself to have a strong stomach and am not easily phased but it made for uncomfortable viewing. The worst was the first incision into the cadavier and him cutting through her brittle ribs!!!! once she was open it was grand, really is amazing what happens if you abuse your heart........

I'll be sure to watch the next one.

Watching at the moment. This is the first one I've seen -- are there more episodes to follow? This synopsis of this one says 'part 3', I had thought the original was a once-off.

They've just covered a female cadaver in foam and sliced her up (like a loaf of bread) to show the spread of cancer. Fasinating stuff.

    //edit
yep.. they had an ad for tomorrow's epp.
Same time (23:05), looks like it's on poisons alright.

And I think the one on Thursday is something like comparing the bodies of a 20 year old and a 80 year old.

Loved the bit at the start tonight where they showed cancer as foam in a doll house.

I wonder when these people signed up to be medical cadavers was it made clear to them they could end up getting bacon-sliced on tv as infotainment rather than being used by a med student?

AFAIK they did know. I think they said so on the last series. The audience is also made up of mainly Donors and Med Students or at least they were last year.

Still beats being 6ft under in a box, or converted to ashes...where's the entertainment value in that?

No doubt, but I'd still rather have some cute female indian med student sticking her knife and fork into my meat and two veg than ending up on Dr.Mengele's bacon slicer.

Dealing with old age tonight. They have a 84 year old live model and a 84 year old corpse. Not pleasant.

Fair play to that old woman in all fairness. It's definitely filmed in a german speaking country though-the audience always have lots of german accent english speakers asking q's at the end and the weighing scales that Gunther just weighed those brains with was made for the german speaking market (it said 'max weight' in german on the dial!). I had wondered about the legality of producing the show (it doesn't seem right to call it a show!) in the UK and I think it has something to do with that.

Anyway, probably some of the best TV I've ever seen. It doesn't get any more real. I was doubting the existence of God recently and although I firmly believe in Darwin's theory, there has to be some intelligence behind it all-it's impossible for me to believe there's no God when you marvel at how we (and the rest of nature) are put together.

Couldn't watch it and I'm not that squeamish.

I can prove I'm not squeamish; I watched "Tony Blair - the Rock and Roll Years" just before that. It was a hoot.

Yeah, he had that awful cheesy grin down to a T! It was very god but really made me cringe.

Couldn't watch it because I couldn't bring myself to care.

Would the show be half as interesting if it wasn't for the dead bodies?

Maybe, maybe not, but if it weren't for the dead bodies, who'd bother watching.

It's called 'Autopsy'-it'd be pretty hard to pull it off without the dead bodies! :)
