Small Tourney advice needed.

Hey just need some advice on a small tourney I'm organising for a few friends, from another forum I help run.

I posted regarding a small poker tourney thinking I would get 6-8 max people responding but there's now 15 people and more have expressed interest. So obviously its too big for a home game now, So my question is where would be a good place to hold it?

The local has let us use their function room on non-busy nights before for gatherings but then it was just drinking, and I know vegasnights etc hold games in pubs but do you need some sort of licence to hold a game?

Or is it a better idea just to hold a few games over a few nights to save the hassle?

Also recommendations for blind levels/starting stacks would be much appreciated. We'll mainly be playing NL Holdem and I would prefer a freezeout.

    Cheers in advance.

Provided you pay a once off membership fee of €2 , I think you can use the Angler's Rest club room (Vegas Night's base) free of charge.

I may get corrected on that.

If you would like to use the Anglers rest i cant see a problem with it we leave 2poker tables there all the time but just incase you need more or we've a tournament that night you can ring 087 6622889 to sort out the details.

Or if you dont want it to go on all night.

    Starting Chips 1500
    Re-buy 1500 Chips
    Top-up 2500 Chips

(20mins for first 4 blind levels then 15mins thereafter)

    25/50
    50/100
    75/150
    100/200 (break & top-up after this level)
    200/400
    300/600
    400/800
    500/1000
    800/1500
    1000/2000
    1500/3000
    2000/4000

I suggest it be a rebuy tournament and not a freezeout because if its a freezeout its not very exciting or sociable for the early departees sitting on the sidelines looking on. Keeping everyone in the game until at least the break when it becomes a freezeout keeps everyone happy. If you start at 7.30pm it should be over around 11pm.

Why not have 2 tables in the house? one in the sittin room and one in the kitchen ?

i did that a few weeks ago, home game ended up with 17 players, on 2 tables, opened the double doors between the dining room and kitchen, and borrowed a big 2nd table, was a great night.
the positives were we had no time pressure, so it wasnt a crap shoot, people could mill around and watch, or just go drink/chat in the sitting room when out, depending on their interest.
Negatives were it took a while to set the place up/tidy up afterwards.
We had a €20 buy in with 1 rebuy for 1 hour, and a top up, with i think 3k starting chips, seemed to work quite well.
Pizza delivery coincided with the break.
Constant calls from people wanting me to do it again, so maybe next month.

Thanks for the advice lads, The anglers rest would be a bit far out for the lads, more than likely we will have two tables in a house as I've been ringing round pubs, and they don't seem to fond of the idea.

Thanks again for advice regarding blind levels.
