Anyone have any thoughts on this race later in the month?

The defections of first Kauto Star and then Cloone River have thrown it wide open ... it's now 6/1 the field with Albuhera and Dempsey close to the head of the market.

one which has really caught my eye is GROUND BALL, of charlie swan.

He's entered in a Grade 2 at Thurles later in the week but if he doesn't run there, I think he's worth a bet at around 16/1 for the VC Chase.

Has run well carrying top weight the last twice (giving lumps of weight to tysou, tribal dispute and bleu superbe at cheltenham and then fourth behind escrea and Studmaster in a hurdle at Leopardstown at Christmas).

That hurdle run took my eye (he was still bang there after the last but just weakened under the weight on the run-in) and considering the way the form has worked out, with Studmaster winning the pierse and escrea running creditably as well, think he'd have to be worth some consideration.

will probably get the preferred soft ground, and as far as I can make out is the only JP horse entered so will have AP up as well...

    k.
