Appologies if this has been posted before, I did search but didn't find anything.

well it is a New Year and a new start so I decided to keep records of my games, I just play STT and MTT tournaments and want to keep track of my % games I finish ITM and overall profit (or loss!). So far i've been taking the stats off the sites and just logging them in excel but I'm crap at the formulas etc... Is there any pre done spreadsheets or nice little apps which let me do this easily? any help appreciated.

the pokertracker link marq posted is good and by far the most popular tool available for datamining your games. however, its most suitable for cash game play and while it can be used for STT and MTT's as well...it doesn't really do much that a simple excel spreadsheet can't do. i bought pokertracker a few months ago and never use it because i play only STT's.

i keep my records in a very basic but easy to read microsoft notepad document.
    keep a note of:
    date
    number of games played
    total cost (incl rake)
    total money won
    total 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes
    total profit/loss for the session

i suggest you do it monthly and at the end of the month figure out your ITM % - simply the number of times you placed top 3 divided by total games.
also your ROI (return on investment) which is total PROFIT divided by total cost (incl rake).

that's all you need. you can analyse stats and fold percentages and EV all you want but IMO instinct and experience and timing are the key to success. a lot of the pokertracker stuff is just complicating things especially in sng's.
cash games are a different beast.

anyway that's what works for me, if you feel you need something a little more in depth, then go with PT.

thanks for the replys. What you suggest staringelf is pretty much what I am doing now, as you say you can over analyise stuff and I just want to know what my % ITM and ROI are. Thanks again for the pointers.

I like the one here, I started using in the dec, and I've actually found it has helped my game by making me focus on my goals, (usually 25 STT buy-ins before moving up/down)

    The latest version is 2.5.

It was taken from the 2+2 STT forums, dont know other peoples thoughts on it, but I like it.

    Thanks

If you use different pcs for playing online, this is a usefull site that can be used to create and save spreadsheets on-line instead of having to save a file on disk.

    http://www.pokercharts.com

This is good, just started using it, $19.95/year, first month free. East to use and web based so can be updated from anywhere. The information surprised me a little, I have posted on my blog for anyone interested.

I signed up for the free month on pokercharts and it does indeed pull up some suprising information. When I play $5/$10 STT games they are a over 10 times more profitable!!
