CRUMBS! Fifty euro for crackers without a proper price tag.
That was the fine imposed yesterday after a judge was told
how a garage had failed to indicate the price per kg of a 200kg
    packet of Boland's Cream Crackers.

Director of Consumer Affairs Carmel Foley welcomed the decision
by Dublin District Court to convict all four shops against which she
    had brought a prosecution.

The shops were prosecuted for breaches of the European Communities
(Requirements to Indicate Product Prices) Regulations 2002.
She warned her office would continue to crack down on shops or
stores which fail to display prices properly.

"Consumers have the right to know the price of goods before
they go to the checkout . . . so they can make informed choices whether
to buy or to move their custom elsewhere."

Sean Carroll Garages Limited, owners of the Texaco store in Howth Road, Raheny,
was fined €200 after admitting three counts of failing to display prices of grocery
products and one of failing to indicate the unit price of a 200g packed of
    Boland's Cream Crackers in kilograms.

Arman Retail Limited, owners of Londis Top Shop in James's Street, Dublin, were fined €3,000 on 12 counts.
Cecilia Stores Limited, trading as Number 1 Shop, at Christchurch, Dublin, was fined €800 on four counts.
Iona Stores Limited, owners of the Spar shop South Circular Road, Dublin, were fined €200 on four counts.

Theres a lot more enforcement required here. Especially with the forecourt shops that display the prices of stuff - at the other end of the shelf to where its located:rolleyes:
