    Hi,
I'm currently using a emachines P4 2.6GHz PC with generic factory 80GB HDD, modem, RAM, graphics card, CD, DVD and Floppy drives.

i went to turn it on recenly but got no response at all - no fans - lights or beeps. i thought it may be the power supply so i replaced the one that was in the system (old one 250W - New one 300W). Now when i switch the PSU on (before actually pressing the PC power button) the fans spin on the Proc and PSU and i get the flashing light indicating the HDD is active(i think). but i get nothing else. When i press the power button nothing changes. The PC wont boot for me at all, i just have the spinning fans.

Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    -Funk

EDIT: i also tried removing components one at a time but no joy there either.

check the power button and micro-switch it connects, somebody could have forced it of its seat.

I had the problem with a PC a while back.

I too thought the PSU was on it's last legs and replaced it with no change. Turned out the motherboard was history. Had to replace it. Working fine now.

Is your PC still in warranty?

afraid not. can anyone give me a rough estimate on a new board for a P4 2.6?

I had a similar problem and I couldn't understand why for ages until I poked about. Turns out I was taking the computer in the car boot and somehow one of the memory sticks got loose. I unplugged and replugged all cables and then came to the memory.

I take it you are not getting a bios beep even? is the motherboard led lit ( if you have one).

getting no beeps at all and there's no light at all on the mobo. i tried reseating the DIMM but no joy. i'd like to eliminate all possibilities before i go buying anything because its the parents PC and dont want them to be spending cash on un-needed parts. this PC has been nothing but a pain in the arse since day one with spyware, viruses and now this. any and all suggestions welcome. thanks to those who've replied so far.

what make is your board ? have you overclocked the PC, check the processor for signs of damage ( smell it, if it smells smokey you've fried the processor ) check all chips on the mobo for black specs on them too.
