Dell 4550 - Liscense Questions

Hello, A good mate of mine has a Dell 4550. For some odd reason he has torn the little sticker on the side of the case off that holds the CD key.

His system had to be reformated a while ago due to a corrupt hard drive and due to him loosing the CD key, he used a key that didn't come with his dell PC and that same key is instaled on multiple PC's he has, He only used it temporarily to get back onto his PC. But he wants his original legal key back that dell sold him.

Anyway he has also lost the original Restore disc that contains XP. I was wondering if he gets his CD key off dell and uses a standard windows XP Disc and installs windows that way, is he with in his legal rights ?

Also if that is possible, where may he get his key from that his computer came with ?

    Thanks,

    Hj

Would ya adam and eve it 2 mins after reading this a couple of posts down was a freeware site posted by and thanks to kalos .

One of the freeware apps was a windows/office cd key finder for finding seriels of already installed software , just what u are looking for .
    Get it here : http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

As regards using another copy of the disc don't think there is anything wrong with that since you alreday legally own a 'copy' albeit not physically but have a valid seriel for it .

EDIT : Reread the query again and i see you've already reformatted with a different cdkey oops.
Though the latter part still holds true.
