I want to catalogue all my DVDs onto the pc so I can watch them without the disks. I heard DVD shrink was the way to go. Last night I did my first DVD and it's in a folder as several files (BUPs, IFOs and VOBs) The whole DVD took about 4.5Gb. Instead of having all these files can I not rip a DVD to Divx, WMV or similar so I only have one file? Also is there any way to do this maintaining 5.1 sound?

Download 'WinAVI Video Converter' from download.com or the likes. even just type in 'dvd to avi/mpg' on download.com and aload of suitable programs will come up. DVD shrink is normally just used for when you want to make a copy of the dvd and burn it onto another disk.

    I recommend IMTOO dvd ripper.
I think WinAVI is very good too though, probably best to go with that.

Can winAVI be used to rip the actual DVD? would it convert all my files in to one file or should I re-rip with it?
