Not sure if this is the right place, maybe after hours is better.

My ex was sitting outside the Ulster Bank on the monastery Rd in Clondalkin earlier in her car when a coupel of lads ran in with a big knife and proceeded to rob the place. As soon as she saw them going in with the knife she rang 999 to report it. They took her details etc and said they'd send someone. Not wanting to be in the vancintiy when they came out in case they took a shine to her car, she headed towards home. She passes Clondalkin Garda station on her way and saw that there was no guards between there and the bank and they didnt seem to beon their way out of the station.

So when she got home (she lives 100 yards from the station) she rang clondalkin station and was told they had'nt got any reports of a robbery but they would send someone down (they took her details too) . As it transpires (link below) the guys got away. I would have thought a bank robbery in progress would rank fairly high on the emergency services "to do" list, but seeminly not. It's now 5 hours after the robbery and gardai are apparently "investigating" but have not contacted her for a descriiption or for any further details (for all they know she may have seen them getting out of a car and got the reg) which I would have thought would be a handy line of inquiry to follow.

Does anyone know who the 999 opperators contact in this instance? is it the nearest Garda station? and if so surely in the 5 minutes it took for her ot leave the scene, go home and ring the garda station, they would have known about it.

999 Police calls are routed to Garda Control section in Harcourt Square on Harcourt St,
control then give out out the calls according to the police district the call refers to,
assuming that the local car is not aleady occupied (which may account for why your girlfriend did not see The Gardai pass her ) they get the call, if they are tied up with a call already, the next free car in the district or adjoining district gets the call, normally a detective unit in unmarked cars would respond to calls like this as well.

As control deals directly with cars over Radio link, the local station may not be aware that a robbery has indeed occurred, there will be a computer warning, but the operator may be away from the desk dealing with the public etc.

    All 999 calls are recorded.
    Hope this helps.

You can try any damn number in the book, they bottom line is they don't want to do a thing. Lazy and damn well incompetent. Your girlfriend is not the first and unfortunately will not be the last person to be so gravely let down by a force which is paid to protect.

Just thought i'd resurrect this as it's just been on crimeline. The gard on theproghramme asked for anyone with info who might have seen them eneter or leave the premises or have any info. WTF???????? is that not exactly what myt ex saw? and reported to both the 999 operator and the gards in clondalkin AS IT WAS HAPPENING? good to see they'd rather wait a few weeks for a lead to find them rather than rushing to the scene at the time. Despite her giving her details to the two peopel whe spoke to, they still havent contacted her to see if she has any info for them.
