Found this great FAQ today. It lists everything that is known about the Revolution (vs. what is speculation). Not a bad one to bookmark.... :)

Excellent FAQ ive got to say, lays out a lot of misconception. Not happy about the seperate 'dongle' type device needed to play DVD's though.

Yeah that does seem crazy. From the FAQ page it sounds like the functionality will be there, but you'll have to pay to unlock it =\

I think it all ties into the Nintendo stance of being a game maker, making consoles for playing games on, and not media centres like other companies.
TBH it was a big deal that the GC couldn't play DVD's but all has changed now, I doubt I'll bother investing in the dongle for the Rev though, I have 4 DVD players in my ROOM now, let alone my house.

    Great FAQ by the way

I doubt the dongle thing would be too dear.

find it refreshing that it's going to be sold as a games machine and only a games machine, if you want it to do other things you can choose them if you want unlike the ps2 and xbox where you get it as standard and pay for it too

Apparently the machine would cost more to be able to have DVD playback out of the box. Some fee they have to pay in order to allow it. I don't see many people needing another DVD player tbh, not at this stage anyway.

Same thing really as forking out for an xbox remote to enable DVD playback.

The Revolution backwards compatible with nes/snes/n64.

This is the best news I heard in ages!

Just dont try and slam your NES carts into the console. You have to buy them via the 'Virtual Console' thing through the Revolutions internet connection.

I imagine some clever people will come up with a 'home brew' solution!
