I was looking for a high capacity (say 250 / 300 GB) 3.5" SATA / SATA 2 (whats the difference) harddrive to go into a gaming rig i'm planning to build.

Was going to go with a 74G Raptor & another.

There's so many of the things out there and so many conflicting reviews as to what best performing after the Raptor, im lost!!

Could anyone suggest which drive I should go for? Buying from Komplett

Raptors are the fastest, I use two for my boot drives. Get another large drive , perhaps a 400gb(!) for storage.

    Check here. (Shameless plug)

The difference between SATA and SATA2 is the interface speed - SATA is 150 MB/s SATA2 is 300 MB/s. This makes no difference to most users though, since the disks are still not as fast as the SATA 1 interface speed.

You would need 4 sataII disk drives in raid to see any performance increase.
The main thing to look for are cache(preferably 16mb), NCQ and hot plugging enabled.
