Does anyone have any reccommendations for popular science books int eh biology category?

I've read loads of maths and physics popular science that i find very interesting and entertaining but i can't seem to find biology ones that are as "wow, doesnt biology rock".

That said, i would definitly recommend Matt Ridley's Genome.

Anything by Richard Dawkins. Matt Ridley's "The Red Queen" is a good read. "Mutants" by Armand Marie Leroi is pretty interesting but the pictures are a bit gruesome for the uninitiated.

If you liked Genome you'll probably like:

    'In Mendel's Footnotes' Colin Tudge
'Y:The Descent of Men' Steve Jones
'A Visitor Within:The Science of Pregnancy' David Bainbridge

'Fly: The Unsung Hero of Twentieth Century Science' is an interesting and kinda funny account of the wonderful world of the fruit fly.

'The Coming Plague' L Garret, is a little long, but has lots of interesting info on the major diseases of the last century or so, as well as the politics surrounding them.

'Human Wildlife' Buckman, has loads of gross pictures of parasites.

Also have to agree The Red Queen is a good read, if a bit slow at the beginning. 'The Mating Mind' is a similar kind of book, but is much longer.
