    Folks ,
We were in a travel agent in Galway on Saturday looking for idea's for our honeymoon in June. The girl in the office is gonna price 7-10 days in Barbados followed by 4/5 nights in New York on our way home.

Has anyone on boards any recommendations/experiences of Barbados ? The girl said she had been to most Caribean Islands and that Barbados was the best of them overall.

    Anything at all ?

    Hi,

I was in Barbados about 7 years ago, and though, yes, it is a lovely island, you need to be careful where you go.

The south of the island is choc-a-bloc with 3 star hotels, bars, nightclubs, drunken revelers etc - just as if you were on a boozy holiday in Ibiza.
Depends on what you want, but I wouldnt consider it suitable for a honeymoon.

The west side of the island is much quieter and more upmarket - and more expensive. The beaches here are very calm. There are also 3 towns along this side, which have restaurants etc, but are more sedate than the south.
The east side of the island is much less inhabited, and seems much wilder, since it faces the atlantic.

There's lots to see and do for a week or two - hire a car and visit Bridgetown and the villages, go to the national park, do all types of water sports.
You can also go on excursions to other carribean islands. We took a small 6 seater plane to the Grenadines, and it was amazing - like being in a James Bond movie!

I'd recommend, be clear to your travel agent about what type of holiday you want, and they should be able to recommend which part of the island to go to.

    Best of Luck.

Not what neither of us have in mind although we don't want to go to a place that is just DEAD.
