    Ill risk ebay, even, if its a "buy it now" item. But my main problem is actually selecting a model. If i found a model, i could search ebay meself. I dont wanna spend much, as it will literally be used about 3times a year. I just want it for posting the odd pic on the net, and getting the pics onto my pc. Handy, for when selling a car and such like.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply mate. I had thought of the argos, but their digital cameras arent on the argos.ie site, so i assumed they didnt do them. But i found them in the argos catalouge today. The samsung you mention is E149.99 in argos alright. But i see a nice Olympus one for E159.99 and it seems nicer. The links to these 2 models are on the argos.co.uk site, which i linked to below,, maybe you`d look at them:

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5601978/Trail/C%24cip%3D29388.Photography%3EC%24Brand%3DSamsung.Samsung%3EC%24cip%3D29389.Digital%2Bcameras.htm
    Thats the Samsung you speak of.

    And heres the Olympus on the next page of the argos:

    Also, heres the Olympus oone on ebay.ie for E106 plus delivery from a power seller.

    Im not really knowledgeable about cameras, but i am tending towards the Olympus as my sister has 1 of them and had no bother, and also maybe some of her accessories would do me if i got the same make camera. I think the main difference between that samsung and olympus is that the oly is 3.2pixel whereas the sam is 4pixel. Both are 4.0digital zoom.Would you have any advice on this before i go buy. Appreciated! :)

    the olympus is optical zoom, a big plus. i'm no pro myself but I got the gf the samsung one and its been goin well. check out the reviews

    the olymupus one http://www.dpreview.com/news/0409/04091606olympus_d535z.asp
    the samsung one

    i'd lean towards the olympus tho(even if it is the ugly ducking of the two imho :p )

    ps. is it for just little snaps or more, 3.2 will print just as well as 4 on 6x4 prints i think so the pixel diff is debateable unless your going for bigger prints

    Thanks for your help. Really appreciated.
    Ill go with the Olympus, i see it on ebay for E106 plus delivery brand new from a power seller which is a bit of a bargain i reckon. :)

    Personally, for new cameras, I'd go for a Canon Powershot A410 [3.2MP] or Ricoh RR530 [5MP], both recent designs. [Both ~EUR150 including the P&P]

    In the end, adding an xD memory card for the Olympus might be quite a bit more expensive than the same-size SD card taken by most other brands.

    Just for reference for any digicam, it's worth factoring in some extra initial outlay to cover the usual accessories[if starting from scratch]. The following points might be useful to some:
    * battery costs are significant (look for model that uses AA - easier to replace than Lithium/Li-ion/etc)
    * rechargeable batteries, being almost essential, require a good recharger(which has sensors to stop the rapid charging)[it might have a set of rechargeable AA NiMH batteries included];
    * internal memory of camera is always tiny!! (holds perhaps 15 pics) => require memory card(look for cam that takes SecureDigital[aka SD] - cheaper type for high capacity eg 128MB or up;
    * NB: as mentioned, optical zoom is the only type of zoom!! - digital zoom is mere software resampling - look for "3X optical" for basic usefulness;
    * NB: as mentioned, 3 MegaPixel is sufficient for full-screen web image or reasonable quality/size print, 4 or 5 MP would be better though;
    * NB: desirable features, not universal on low-spec models: manual focus(as well as normal Auto); longer shutter speed range(eg 1sec-1/2000sec)[instead of, say, 1/2sec-1/500sec]; good macro focusing ability (eg 1cm)[instead of, say, 30cm]

    Hope that might help.
