Recommendation for Internet Filtering Software?

    Hey all,

As part of my job, I look after the IT needs of several schools and they've asked about the possibility of website blocking to restrict access to porn, PTP, warez sites etc.

In most cases these schools are using basic networks over ISDN/ADSL with the default routers as supplied by eircom.

I suppose I could go out and buy better routers (eg: like the 3Com OfficeConnect one I use here at home) that include URL filtering as a feature and install those, or is there cheap (preferably free) software that people can recommend which could be installed on the PC's in question?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions..

If you are looking for a free web filter go to We-Blocker.
Its free but can be slow.

    Just edit HOSTS file.

or a firewall like Zone Alarm could block websites.

when installing a pc for a friend of my dad's i used the solutions posted here

the naomi is a great filter and works like a charm and is unobtrusive.

also there's a link in that thread that has a huge HOSTS file that will block a lot of rubbish too like ad's and the likes.
